Email From Kathy:

On behalf of SUPVic, thank-you for helping us make history by competing in The Mad Paddle. It was an outstanding success exceeding our initial goal by raising over $29,000 to enable the purchase of a mobile ultrasound unit for the Emergency Department at the Sandringham Hospital.

Together we raised over $16,000 in individual paddler sponsorship. If you would like further specifics on your donors please either email Kathy or Felicity directly.

Other funds raised included $9,700 with the auction items and further donations on Sunday. Club Marine, Bayside and Kingston Councils provided $500 each.

A special thanks to the escort vessels: The Coast Guard, Bill Stubbs and Arthur Naoumidis from the Sandringham Yacht Club, and David Boxshall who was representing Variety – The Children's Charity. All four boats have declined our offer to reimburse fuel and out of pocket expenses. As a gesture of goodwill we have decided to split the $2,000 in registration fees (that covered fuel and out of pocket costs) evenly between the escort vessels. The escort vessels will in turn be directing the funds to the following charities:

· The Coast Guard: self

· David Boxshall: Variety – The Children's Charity

· Arthur Naoumidis: Kids Under Cover

· Bill Stubbs: Juvenile Diabetes Foundation

A special thanks to the Sandringham Yacht Club for hosting us on Sunday and Skybus for donating the bus. Thanks also to the doctors who generously gave up their day: James Taylor, Katherine Taylor and Chris Ball. Thanks to Parks Vic and Port of Melbourne Authority who supported our mad dream and help make it a reality.

Thanks to Tim Patterson from SUPVic who has provided a great wrap on the day that you may want to share when you thank your supporters. www.supvic.com/2012-mad-paddle-charity-event-report/.

Thanks also to our photographers Mike Carter Key, Phill Page and Mikey Esplan for taking photos on the day. These will be up on the SUPVic website soon.

Running this event has been a massive learning curve and we are open to improvements for next year. Already we are talking about refining the way registration and sponsorship process. We will be setting up a facebook page to facilitate efficient communication. If you have any other suggestions on how we can improve the event next year, please contact either Felicity or Kathy. We are keen to leverage off the success of this year and grow The Mad Paddle in strength so it becomes a permanent fixture on the SUP calendar. Together as a team we can do this. Thanks once again for your tremendous support and participation. It would not have happened without The Mad Paddlers!

Regards,

Felicity Frederico
