After checking the charts decided it might be wise to hit the early this morning with a 4m swell predicted. Sure enough, checked the MHL live data site and it was running 4-6meters on a 12 sec period. Me and my goatie mate paddled out DY in near darkness. He got out before me but was sitting a 100 meters out past the point so I’d thought better follow suit. He knew something I didn’t cause a set of 3 smokers in the 2 and half + overhead range loomed up!
He got the first one, I got the second. It was a mind blowingly perfect, massive face with a light offshore brushing it, reeling for about a 100 meters and a huge wall to play with. This is definitely the biggest waves I have had the 9 3 ripper in and it felt very solid underfoot. Plenty of paddle power to get into them and not sketchy off the bottom at all. Often, big waves in Sydney don’t have a lot of wall on em, whereas these things looked like J Bay!! This is where the drive in the Ripper was paying dividends as it was able to get around massive sections. I was pretty ginger on the first few of course.
We both continued to sit 50-100 meters out past the crew and just pick off the biggest sets (which they weren’t getting near) with a couple reeling off almost down to the poles (300 meters). If this sounds like a babble, sorry but it is, these are some of the best waves I have surfed in Sydney. The guy on Real surf was calling some of em 4 x overhead – bit of an exaggeration maybe. Dropped off a lot now though. SUP is insane for big surf!!!
Sounds awesome mate, would have loved to be amongst it, got some good waves my self this morning

nothing like that size though.
All you gotta do now is convert your goat mate to a sub

Actually there is a really good goatboater here who rips, his name is bummer probably the most hardcore goatboater i have seen yet
