I believe it is a similar rule in QLD but 30m is the distance.

But then I am not sure if all bets are off when we are paddleing what is essentially a bar crossing?? maybe someone could shed some light on this.

Pretty sure its 60 metres while over 6 knots.

Ummmm-MOST shortboarders think the same thing about SUPboarders.

Hey cobber,I ride them all, short long and sup's!
Think about it, surf craft riders v's Ski at speed
who will win?
There are rules and the open beaches are best
suited for ski's,OH BTW I own a SKI But would
need put peoples lifes at risk!
Move on

I'm not disputing that most jetski riders are w@nkers, cobber.

What I am stating is that most other surfers who don't ride SUB see SUB riders as a menace.

And yep, I've been surfing well over 30 years some professionally-and yep, I have a SUB.

Apologies for the truth touching a sore point.

Just a short postscript.
Went for a stroll tonight to the point and found a group of people feverishly working to extricate a vehicle from the grip of the sea.
Bogged with its rear tires under water. Waves lapping around the doors. They finally got it out with two other 4WD's straining.
Why was he out so far? They where trying to get their jet ski back on its trailer.
Couldn't help but feel a sense of justice/karma.

Happy Easter to all (even jet ski riders)

You would be amazed at the results of writing a poisoned letter to council about what peeves you off. Some councilors have oodles of time and most take an interest in their local community and you may well strike a nerve with the right person.

Jet Ski's have been banned from Western Port Bay - probably as a result of people taking pen to paper. Take it one beach/bay at a time. All it takes is a written letter to the right person to get the ball rolling.

I think everyone here knows I'd love to see them banned from all popular public beaches.

some classic poetry.

Ode To A Jet-Ski Person was written by Michael Leunig and comes from Poems 1972-2002, published by Viking.

Ode To A Jet-Ski Person

Jet-ski person, selfish fink,

May your silly jet-ski sink,

May you hit a pile of rocks,

Oh Hoonish, summer, coastal pox.

Noisy, smoking, dickhead fool

On your loathsome leisure tool,

Give us all a jolly lark

And sink beside a hungry shark.

Scream as in its fangs you go,

Your last attention-seeking show,

While on the beach we all join in

With ‘Three cheers for the dorsal fin!’

Easter brings them all to the Sunshine Coast.

While 5 SUPs, a couple of surf skis and outriggers were enjoying the last of the swell over the Mooloolaba river mouth we we joined by the Jetski tourist. These seem to have less of an idea then the local ones. Repeatively at speed thay would pass less then 10m away. One thought it was the familiy vehicle with his wife and 2 kids (aged about 3 and 1) on board. They were jumping the waves and smelling it up without care of others.
It got worse. Know some holiday maker in his runabout boat thought he could join in. What was he thinking I don't know.
Finally the lowest point of the day came 3 more turned up on hire jetskis.... thank god the have a time limit.

I understand that the police etc are overworked but these action need to be looked at.

On a brighter note we have had a great run of swell and the 3 hour sesh had some great sliders and met some great people.

On return to the beach I was approached by a Newcastle Tourist who could surf and asked if he could have a go. 20 minutes latter he is hooked and is on his way to the Newcastle SUP shop when he returns.

I love the tourists as they bring the dollar and colour to the coast. Just the ones with no regard on their Jetskis (or power boats) should maybe book a remote location next time.

Cheers
Swanie

I was out at Blacksmiths, south of Newcastle yesterday and got to witness the utter stupidity of a jet skier. This bloke had many k's of beach with not a soul around to play in, but instead decided to play in the middle of a pack of surfers. The only other SUP rider out decided to call him on the behaviour which quickly escalated to the Jet Skier circling him, spraying him and finally calling him to the beach to "punch on" as he put it.

Such a great bogan display.

Should add when the SUP rider made it to the beach minutes later the Jet Skier was no where to be seen. Real tough guy.

It seems these incidents are not few and far between.

Maroochy river mouth Thursday - just me and my SUP friend Lorraine enjoying a few rolling waves at the river mouth, no other bugger to be seen. HUGE expanse of river waves, ocean breaks, open ocean, open river around us.

Then, what do you know, 3 jetskis appear from no where, and where do you think they start wave jumping? I guess I don't have to tell you, approx 10 m from us! OK, I thought I will give you guys a few mins to move on, but no, stinking friggin smelly things hanging around, Ahh the serenity! I'd had enough and not very politely told them to **** off. There was no argument, off they went. I guess guys just like showing off to surfin gals?? I truly don't know......

_________________________________________________________________

Maroochy River Mouth Good Friday - ahh we have a different story !!
Today we paddle on out to the river break, and there is a Surf Rescue fellow on a JetSki with a rescue pad on the back of it. He cruised up and asked where we were heading.... nice of him to care. So out we go for a surf, with our guardian angel on a surf ski nearby! Next thing the same group of Jet Skiers come on out for a play in the waves, this time looking very subdued as soon as they see our mate on the Surf Rescue Ski. Not that he had any authority ??

Sure enough an hour later one of the boys on the jet skis goes flying off his ski -Ski floating around with our a rider. Lucky for him our guardian angel who thought he would have to rescue two sheilas on SUPS had to race out to the bar to rescue a wobbly jet skier who had had a nasty fall and hit his head. !
They dragged him out of some very heavy surf and placed him on his ski, only for him to slide back off it - after a few minutes he had recovered enough to be escorted back home.
