Yes Sam you are right there. To give you guys a visual of what he's talking about, here are some pics I took of my husbands outrigger team doing Molokai a few years back. These canoe's are 42ft long.
This section is called "The Wall" (for a few reasons) where you come into Portlock Point on Oahu only a couple of km's from the finish (for SUP/paddleboard). Just gotta get around that point on the left. You usually have to get right in close to the cliff to get out of the tide. So the guys yesterday would have not only had to tackle the head on tide but also this back wash and a 20kt head wind. Does this look familar Rollo ?? I think I was sea sick about here too that year !!
