nice vid How did it work out with the new Jav. In comparison with the former model with these stronger wind? I have the idea that you tried some things out to see how the board behaves (Weight shift)

That would have to be one of the best vids yet showing why the new DW boards have adopted that shaped nose. The nose spent nearly as much time piercing the water as it did above the water. The flow of water from the nose across the deck looks so smooth and not affecting the speed, direction or stability. Thanks DJ.

Well done, Naish could use that footage for future sales.
I had my 14' x 28" Jav LE out last night for the first time on the river.
Can't believe how stable the board is & with speed.
There was quite a bit of chop & it sliced, like a hot knife through butter.
I was playing around with planing the board.
Would you say having the nose slightly above the water line is the go for gaining as much speed as possible?
When positioned beyond the hand held section, love seeing the water peeling off the nose with ease.
Ocean next, bring it on :-)
p.s I feel the need for speed!!

OK i'm not here to bash Naish or anything or say this board is not working but how is what DJ's board doing any good? If the nose is under the water how do you have control of the board, i see DJ fighting to keep it straight alot of the time and think he looks way more in control on his old Naish. When you are riding bumps like those you want to be surfing the bumps not always trying to fight your nose going underwater. I'm not saying it cant work but going fast in the bumps is not about running into the bump in front and having your nose under water it's about going over bumps.

Here is a vid of me on my Fanatic as a example, yes my nose does go under but watch how fast it comes back up and how it wants to go over bumps not through bumps! I'm sure the Naish board is good and goes really fast in the right conditions i just feel for a DW board it does not seem like its working that well.

Yeah please i'm not having a go at anyone or anything like that but from all the testing we have ever done having the nose in the water has never been a good thing for DW paddling. I'm sure for sprinting and BOP racing the board will work unreal.

haha yeah i know i'm sure some red thumbs will come my way but i would much rather see people get the right board for the conditions they want to paddle in weather thats a SIC, Naish or anything else!! We all know RED is the fastest

Ok I tested a 14 footer at a Naish day...and congrats to Naish for presenting us with a great opportunity. I tried about 10 boards..amazing..just love the 10'6 Nalu..Tried the 14 Carbon toucan nose model Jav. ..very fast ..super stable ...26' wide was even faster..I was not paddling in DW conditions, though. When running with the wind with very small windswell, it was picking up the swell with ease. Nose was going under and I was always thinking " OK am I going to spear in and go over the front". Have to say it is a great board, and love the narrower board even more. Buy I agree that seeing DJ digging it out from under water is a bit concerning, especially at speed. Having had the experience of the effect,I found myself thinking is DJ going over the top..can't say I like the idea, yet,..my jury is stillout..I'll wait for positive reviews before digging out the $. For DW , I'll stick to my old 2011 14' banana, for the moment..after all you can't really go any faster than the waves ...
In flat water they feel really fast..and the GX would be the way I'd go, if at all. Only 2kg or so heavier than the carbon [which have direct impact fragility]

Love that vid Paul.. It's awesome and one of the best I've seen... But it is a little bit like comparing apples with oranges IMO..

You're so much younger.. So much fitter and stronger.. Sooo much lighter.. and a world class athlete on a much lighter and narrower board.. and in very different conditions.. With the biggest difference being that you are waaaay more talented than me on a sup board..

I'm not making excuses.. Just saying.. This is very early days for me and this board.. It takes time to get to know a board and how a board is going to react.. Knowing when to move and when there is no need to.. and learning where it's sweet spots are.. This was my first ever paddle in any real wind and even then it was very up and down making finding and catching runners hard work.. Can't wait to get more time on this new board.. and can't wait to get it out in very strong winds and better waves.. I was deliberately pearling the nose at times to see if it does the big old-Starboard and new-Fanatic boof.. (Not that there's anything wrong with the boof) .. There's no doubt the new a Fanatics are awesome boards..

It's very interesting seen how these boards are evolving.. It will be interesting to see if a Fanatic follows in this new design.. It's nice to see that the new 2015 Fanatics have lost some of the huge boubous nose.. What's next.. Sharper rails towards the nose..

Comparing these major SUP brands like Naish.. Starboard.. and Fanatic is a bit like comparing BMW.. Mercedes.. and Audi.. These no right or wrong.. good or bad.. Just different.. It'd be a borring place if everything was the same..

agree ..maybe just need to get used to the submarining realizing that it will always resurface...just like knowing other board brands will boof or splay ...you just work with it and around it's shortcomings..

haha you go alright DJ no need to make me feel good.LOL

Fanatic 2015, no stayed the same pretty much as the board worked really well and some times changing things just for the sake of changing is a good way to step backwards, only difference is a little less on top of the nose and that just helps with tying the boards on the car more than the way it works in the water.

The nose going under is just part of what that board is going to do unless you are always moving which is where things start getting technical and thats why kids like Kai Lenny can make this kind of board work.

I just think you looked way smoother on your old board and it just seemed to fit the waves way nicer maybe post the new vid up against one of your older ones in the same kind of conditions?

Thanks Paul.. I had to drop my iPad and drive my daughter somewhere before I had finished.. I remember chatting with Randy (Robby's brother) once and he thought the old Jav was the best and fastest DW board.. You were very fast on that board back then.. The problem for most of us is that it didn't have enough stability.. Not enough tail rocker.. and too soft in the rails in the rear.. Well it seems like they fixed all those thing with this new Jav.. Maybe it is more a flat water board that will also work quite well on downwinders.. But having that extra speed along with more stability is a very nice thing.. I do have to move more to make this board work but no more than last years Glide.. As far as looking smoother.. and more comfortable.. I'm actually more comfortable on the original v1 and v2 Glides.. Very comfee.. but not very fast when you're not catching bumps..

Thanks.. Shame it was so dark and gloomy.. It's very similar to my 2014 Glide..

You do have to move around a bit to make these flat rockered boards work downwinding..

It is pretty easy to lift the nose by stepping back once you get used to it.

A10 it didn't seem to be effected by side chop or side winds.. but it's still early days.. It paddles into the wind better than most boards IMO.

I agree.. It is nice to see a quiet and splash free nose slicing through the water.. and without and feeling of pushing water or slowing down..

btw.. I'm sure many think my vids are some kind of Naish promo or advertising.. The fact is that I just like to sup.. and taking photo's and filming and making vids.. and I just so happen to like and buy Naish boards..

I used to do the same with my motorbike.. and yet people don't think that I'm promoting or advertising for BMW.. .. It's just what I happen to ride..

Yes it is very early days.. Still sussing the board out.. If after a few weeks/months if I'm not happy with it I'll sell it and buy another 29" wide Glide.. I loved that board.. I'm really liking this new board so far..

One thing I can vouch for with DJ's first DW on this new Jav and this is he stayed dry which was not always the case on the old one. And believe me, I did my best to cut him off and make him fall.

I thought Jacko would've got a million red thumbs - he seems to for no reason in all the other threads.

It was DJ's videos that first got me interested in downwinding... the enthusiasm for the sport is something that I can't help admire and personally I don't care if he pimps Naish or any other brands - it's all good and I appreciate the effort.

Having no nose rocker in those really short wave lengths on the bay - it seems there's no choice but to bury the nose, particularly in low wind where you need to get lower on the runner to stay with it, so a thin piercing nose/easy release nose is probably just the ticket. For ocean downwinding, I used to be amazed at how often I'd bury the 2013 glide nose, which had a fair bit of rocker. When I say bury, I mean like 4 or 6 inches under - mostly due to lack of skill. The 2014 glide is flatter, and would be worse, except it is faster - so you can sit higher on the runner and keep the nose out of the water and surf a bit more. Which suits me just fine. I get the impression that this new Jav would be very similar in that - in which case the fancy nose would be wasted a bit? Not sure - it would be good to see.

but it's all fun on the water any way !!

By the way paul.j that's a great video too !!
I have taken out a lot of Fanatics here in SA but I just can't get used to that needle thin board. I think that it's a bit of a case of ride the board you can stand on the best, because swimming isn't DWing
