Just mix up some laundry bleach and water and flush it through.

I always have a cordial mix (lemon so it doesn't discolour) because the sugar or preservatives seem to stop the mold growing alot better than plain water.

Damn, just threw one away on the weekend due to mould. Wish I'd known the bleach trick. Never mind, I have spares.

i just got a kole water pack,it is unreal. i use a food grade sanitiser. bleach, bloody hell that is pretty hardcore. i had issues with funky smells but a mate told me this, if using just water rinse out once if using a gator like product rinse 3 or 4 times. when done hold bladder upside down and blow air into it, then you have to squeeze the air out. then hang the bladder upside down to dry right out. mind you my new pack has only been used a dozen times so cant tell if it will work but i think he has got me on the right path. hope it will stop the stink for all of us.

Rinse your bladder out with water after use then put it in the freezer until next time = no mould ever! Problem solved.

Milton - the stuff to sterilise baby bottles with. I'm not keen on bleach as residue can rot you guts. Just follow the directions.

After every use just drain it completely and take the mouthpiece off the end of the hose so that it is just pipe. Flush with water to make clean. I always flush the zippers and pack as well as the bladder.

Get some paper tissue screwed up into a bundle and stuff it inside the bladder to keep it open and allow air to flow through the pipe and around the inside of the bladder. Dry bladders do not have mould.

Hang it all up and allow to dry and it's perfect for next time. Takes about 2 minutes and does not make it taste funny with bleach etc.

Vinegar is good for getting rid of mould.

If you store your Camelbak full(ish) you won't get get mould growing inside. Make sure you squeeze all the air out. I have three and they're all fine. Each one gets used once a month or so depending on what I'm doing.

... yeah I reckon the Milton or similar is the go, one tablet, fill with tap water, shake a few times and leave overnite, then rinse a couple of times. Dont get the bleach taste. You can use pipecleaners joined together to clean the tube and mouthpiece. Then store it in the fridge when not in use.

Why not just let it dry properly? Camelbak even sells drying racks to spread the bladder apart.

you still have to sanitise it though. just a plastic drink bottle filled over and over will get funky, so a bladder well. like the rack though has given me some ideas.like the fridge idea too, germs are not suppose breed in temps below 5 degree/ i think.

Nobody takes the lid off a plastic water bottle empties it and lets it dry, if you did it would not get funky.

Hahaha. That sounds like something my wife would say to me. Maybe it is me, OK, I'm a grub. Could explain those spots.......

Maybe I'll sanitise my pack and water bottle before their next use.

Storing the bladder in the Freezer is the answer here, tube and all, never leave it in your warm garage after use.

Ive used them for 20 years on the MTB.

Oh, and to get the mould out of the drinking tube -

Take the drink tube off the bladder and remove the suck valve.
get on old bike gear or brake cable, or a similar type of wire longer than the tube
Tie a tiny bit of clean, damp rag onto one end of the wire.
drag the wire thru the tube, cleaning the mould outta there.

Easy.

i actualy have a Mnt Biking back ground am im a bit of a dity guy so i have come across this mould issue a few times , i use deture cleaner tablets you just chuck them in there with some water and walk away .
Also if you just use water in ya camel back its easier to keep clean once you start using other stuff you have to really start cleaning it.
