Here's how day two (Friday) went for me.. It started out with overcast sky's and coolish conditions but with a water temp being warmer than the air temp.. It was over 20 deg C in the water.. Small waves again but glassy.. very glassy and great fun.
Here's a rare shot of Ian (from Starboard Aus) on the water and surfing down the back of a wave that he just made it over.
It was great to see so many kids getting into sup.
Mel always with a big smile.
Locals enjoying it.
AA cheating on his 12'6" DC.
After a couple of hours and dozens of waves it was time to hit the barbie.. and check out a couple of surf monks waiting in line.
Bacon cooked the Aussie way and not fried to a crisp like the yanks like it.
I checked out the action while scoffing down some bacon and egg burgers.
It was a constant trail of demo boards going in and out.. and so many kids enjoying them.
Scott had his beautiful custom Lahui Kai up for sale at a bargain price.
Back at the expo I took some more pics of stands that I missed yesterday.
My friends Tim and Paul had just arrived from a long drive from Melbourne so I took them on an flat water paddle starting in the inlet.. then across into the breeze to the protected side that was out of the wind.. and then out along the cliffs past the very high pier where Tim had a 'Hold my beer and watch this moment'.. Jonathan, Ross, Cam and Andrew also came along.
Ross did very well on his little 9.0 Hokua considering he's still wearing his winter coat.
I could hear Tim concentrating as we got swept out the fast flowing water with whirlpools that made the board do funny things.
PT was looking very relaxed.
Once past the waves at the bar beach it was calm glassy water.
We paddled past this very high Pier (about 30' I reckon) and Tim said I'd love to jump off that.. We all said "go for it Tim".
Half way up Tim looked down and said "I might just jump from here".. I could see his legs shaking.. I said just go up and have a look from the top.. Once up there he thought 'what the heck'.. Geronimoooooo!.. them Booof.. and we should have issued a tsunami warning.
We kept paddling along the cliffs.. I love the colour of the water here.
We then had dolphins all around us.. I was a bit slow with my camera and they never seems to be where I had the camera pointed.. We followed them for a while.. If you look close you can see one in this pic.
We then headed back to the Bar beach and played on the little waves.. Tim caught his first wave.. Warwick was windsurfing his sup in about 5 knots of wind.
It was then back to the barbie for more free food.. paddling does make you hungry.
That's about if for my pics from day two.. Another great day at the Corona Classic..
Thanks guys.. It was very unusual to be so overcast for Merimbula and I was disappointed to get no sunrise pictures.. The weather satellite picture showed the mother of all clouds covering half of Australia and sweeping right across where we were.. At least we did get some sun at times and it came good on the last day.. btw.. I just added the rest of my pictures from day two to my post.
