Anyone ridden them both and can compare ?

The Naish Mana is 4 3/4 thick and 210 Litres as opposed to The Starboard Whopper being 4.13 thick and around 163 Litres which is a fair difference ?

The Whopper you'd think makes up for not been as thick with the extra 2 inches in the width being 34 wide against the 32 of the Mana but the capacity is still vastly different.

Would love to get some thoughts on the two from someone who can compare.

I have ridden both and the Mana would get my money in that comparison.

I am 6ft and about 108kg

I've only paddled the Mana and it would be a great all round board for anyone. From what I have read on other sites & forums the Whopper is the better performer in the surf.

I started on the Whopper as my first standup board and it was great in big & small surf. It taught me quickly how to get on and ride waves (hard to turn in small surf). Other boards I tried were too tippy and I spent to much time falling off.
I progressed 6mths later to the 9'5" Naish Mana, this was an easy stepping stone. The luxury is it turns well and has good stability.
I assume in another 6mths I'll be after a performance board like the 9'6" Hokua. This rapid progression in board type is costly however is required for the likes of myself who surfed for years, got lazy and then found SUP which has kick started my enthusiasm for riding waves. I Would like to keep the Mana in my quiver for onshore/cross shore/windy days. This was also where the whopper excelled.
Also ride the 14' Glide - now any day I can SUP somewhere.

Hi Phil, interested to know how these boards compare the the PSH 10'6WAA?
It is also 167L so it is similar in volume to the Whoppa.
Would it be worth considering or is it a different board?

Hey AA.. I've paddled both and they are very different boards.. You know which one I think's better..

I think if you wanted an allrounder and maybe a do bit more distance paddling the PSH may be better with slightly less yawing.

Are we going to see some of these new style wide boards coming from PSH in the future..?

Hey, this one is of great help........as are the others so thanks all.

I started on the 10'5 Mana - rode it twice and took it back for the 10' Mana.

I also had the 11'6 Naish AST which I've still got but as good as it is, it is tippy in crossshore conditions. I'd say as 5 1/2 thick is just to 'boaty' but great for the family to play with and mates to random paddle !

I've been tossing up the 9'5 Mana but with the 10' already, I'd say the similarities are almost to close to measure and really a waste of $$ although I'm sure the 9'5 rips, so does the 10' although I'm finding it just a tad bouncy on sloppy days. (4 3/4 will do that)

Given the fact I'm like Healdy and new to SUP's but with 20 years extensive surf experience, the stepping stones have been quick in some regard but I'm aiming to keep this a fun activity rather than push it to comp standard or oversized shortboards although I appreciate them for what they are, I'm pushing 40yo with kids and just want to get wet most days and chill on the coast rather than push more boundaries.

I've decided to order the 10' Whopper for junky, sloppy days. 34 wide gives table stability, thinner rails and more weight give it a less corky feel and I'd say a tendency to ride 'in' pockets rather than 'on' and give me an addition to the quiver rather than the 9'5 Mana which would have been to close to the 10' Mana which I'll never let go of.

Thank again guys - appreciate using you as a sounding board. Should have the Whopper from WA end of next week and can let you know either with a smile or regret.

Whereras i do not disrespect the opinions of people or who have surfed or paddled the whopper for an hour/or afternoon I've had my whopper for 4 months now with a wave score closing in to 2000 waves & it rocks even in solid 15 foot faces or bigger. Sure a friskier smaller board would go well in the quiver for those perfect surf days but it scores an A++ in my book.
Did the tandem thing in a point break with 3 foot faces but both of us had to kneel for wavecatching cause a bit wobbly with one person standing. Maybe the Mana is better for that lol

Perfect !

Not sure I'll be taking on 15 foot, 6-8 would see me done for sure but your comments on the Whopper are awesome - thanks !

Hi AA,

I have only surfed the Mana and Wopper in small waist high waves that was all that was on offer at the time.

The 10'6 WAA is one of the most fun boards I have ever ridden for a big guy. Robdog takes on almost anything down south on his and he rips and styles!

The flatter rocker IMO allows it to run onto a wave a little easier as it does not push as much water.

You will sacrifice a little on the stability front with the PSH as it is narrower compared to the other 2.

What you get in return is speed and performance especially in bigger thicker Vicco waves. I have not ridden the 10'6WAA in a sucky beach break so cannot comment on it performance in these conditions.

I have surfed the 10WAA in 2 x OH+ down to 6 inch OG sloppy ripples always with a huge smile.

Not as much fun as the 12ft Gun my fave big board but the 10'6WAA if you have some surfing experience is a gem for the conditions we have.

Got the wife the Whopper Candy last month and she loves it, catches all the waves.

She's only just getting to the stage of letting me try it as she's been so protective over it

Well at this stage of my whoppering I have had no problems riding the whopper in bigger waves ( wouldn't consider a wave with a 15 foot face big myself....not talking Hawaii here....just your average day with a bit of size surely)
