I was checking out a new Naish boards today and noticed there was no mast track like they originally had.

Instead there was a nice little round hole in the center of the deck that is threaded for a mast base to screw into.

I like it......It stops the board looking like you are just paddling a sailboard.....jeez that 10'6" looks good.

I think i have read somewhere that you get a plug for it when you buy it, mine

didnt come with one and i forgot to ask when i picked it up. It doesnt get in the

way though i might ask next time.

I'll pop down to SHQ today and take a couple of pics of the new system..maybe it's just the 10'6" that has changed to the new system..or maybe they still have plenty of stock left of the older 11'6" and we've not seen the newer ones yet...I'll suss it out.

Ok guys..I just took some pics...SHQ here in Melbourne have two 10'6"s in stock.

First the older 10'6" with the mast track.

Here's the newer 10'6".

The small hole is the vent screw...the mast base screw hole looks a bit like a belly button.....I still like it better than the track.

Hey DJ,

Have you ever been to any of SHQ's free demo/lesson mornings that they advertise on their web site?

Hey DJ,

Have you ever been to any of SHQ's free demo/lesson mornings that they advertise on their web site?

I saw that advertised on their site well before the day it was meant to start...and was looking forward to the day it was advertised to start...They said from about 10am on there would be boards to demo, people to help out and all that jazz.

I got there at 10 sharp..It was a perfect day...I paddled around..NO ONE!!!..I came in and walked around..Their demo boards were loaded on the trailer nearby and ready to go..but on one was around..I asked at the shop on the beach..They knew nothing.

I paddled around until about 1pm..and still no one....Then I went home very dissapointed..I expected a huge turnout for the first day..or at least someone.

I asked at the shop a couple of weeks later what happened..They said.."If you wanted to demo a board you should have tee'd it up with the shop first"...Jeeez!

Anyway..I've not been back to another.

BTW...While I was in there today I picked up one of their flyers..Check it out..Lets hope more turn up for this one..

Champ...I was looking at the 10' Laird or C4..but I think the 10'6" Naish might be a better allrounder...I just need to work out how to pay for it..

BTW...Have you put some plastic electrical tape or something around the edges of your paddle blade and lower shaft..If not I recommend you do it before using your new board in the surf..You don't want to ding up the rails of your new board..

Also FYI...I got to try a carbon paddle for the first time yesterday...I was very dissapointed..

Sure it was a little lighter..but only a little.

The shaft felt flexy on the beach but paddling it didn't feel much different to my alloy.

The short fat stubbie handle didn't feel as good as mine..Maybe it's just because I'm so used to mine.

When I put any power into the stroke..Wobble, wobble, wobble...The blade would not go straight..It fluttered all over the place.

So if you do lash out on a new carbon paddle..Try before you buy.

Hey DJ,

Thanks for the advise have been thinking of doing that. The naish cruise you guys have got coming up over there sounds like it would be a great day, hopefully plenty do turn up cant wait until we get something like that happening over my way let us know how it goes.

I have no idea what the laird or the c4 is like but i do know that im very pleased with my naish 11'6 and i dont think you would be dissapointed with the naish brand. Also havent had the chance to try any carbon paddles yet, but i dont have any trouble with the aliminium paddles weight or performance so far. I think it will do me for a while yet.

cheers
