Just toying with an idea (mainly because I am getting a Go Pro for Christmas and want to use it).
I was thinking of a one weekend surf contest nation wide. A lot of people have cameras or friends that can stand on the beach and video. So why not organise a weekend in early 2011 when you have to surf your local break, video it and upload it to a thread on this site. The forum could then vote on it.
Rules would have to be worked out but basically i was thinking:
1). Surf would have to have occurred on the weekend in question. I know this opens up room for cheating with old footage but a hollow victory is no victory so I don't see many if any doing it.
2).The video would have to be uploaded by say 1pm on the Sunday.
3). The forum votes and we could work out some prizes or just the glory of the win.

I like the fact that luck plays it hand where by some may have 3' glass, others slop and some near flat. It could level the field nation wide and anyway its all about the fun and the use of my camera I am getting.

Any thoughts on the idea. Is it crap or worth toying with.

If it is early Jan, you could open up a 7 day window, to give everyone more opportunity. Neat little idea. Needs sponsors and prize money... Let's get serious !! Entries would need to list state, nearest towns, or beach, time, and tide. That would help authenticate that the conditions roughly matched those in the film...

Changed the heading to 1 week as it is a better idea.

Maybe Laurie could come up with a system for casting votes or scores etc. so people can only vote once (or only their last review counts)

Maybe some of the big distributors could assist with some prizes
