Well not the best conditions this weekend for distance racing. There was either no wind, a head wind or a side wind. But I think I'm safe to say everyone had a great weekend anyway. Yesterday was the 25km Relay race. Paddlers started into a head wind with hope that it would turn east half way through and then come from behind for the second half of the race. Which it didn't.

The race was won overall by Byron Kurt of California who did it solo.
1st Relay team was Paul Jackson & Pete Meyer. I'm not sure of the full results of this race so I'm sorry for not knowing who was 2nd. (Maybe someone else can post this) And I'm thinking Shakira Westdorp & Mick Di Betta came 3rd overall.

First and only female team to finish the race was Jasleigh Gearly & Angela Van Hoof.

Today's 12km race I do have more accurate results.

Unlimited Open Mens
1st Travis Grant - DC17 (59.28 mins)
2nd Paul Jackson - Naish 17 (1.01.08)
3rd Mark Huxley - F16
4th Mark Waldeck - DC17 (1st Master)

14' Open Mens
1st Kai Bartlett - Lahui Kai (1.02.17) 3rd overall
2nd Woogie Marsh - Naish 4th overall
3rd Byron Kurt - Hobie
4th Pete Meyer
5th Simon Dodd - C4 Vortice

12'6" Open Mens
1st Aaron Napoleon - Bark
2nd Shakira Westdorp - Lahui Kai
3rd Jamie Willems
4th Will Ando - C4

14' Open Womens
1st Jasleigh Geary - Naish
2nd Alison Fullager - Naish
3rd Angela Van Hoof - Naish

Great pics!

Saturdays relay was started in a strong headwind which slowly died down until everyone crossed the line.

At the 1/2 way mark and the changeover the positions were:

1st - Byron Kurt - Hobie 14 -Solo
2nd - Pete Meyer - Naish 14
3rd - Mick DiBetta - LahuKai 14
4th - Simon - C4 14
5th - Noel Graham? DC17
6th - Other Californian Dude? on a Hobie 14 - Solo
7th - ?Angela - Naish 14
8th - ?Alison - Naish 14
9th - ?Clarky - DC16
10th - Sue - DC16 with a broken rudder whoops!

At the finish in the harbour the final results were:

1st - Byron Kurt - Hobie 14 - Solo
2nd - Paul Jackson (Pete Meyer) - Naish 14
3rd - Shakira Westdorp (Mick DiBetta) - LahuKai 14
4th - John Stewart? (Noel Graham)? - DC17
5th - Will Anido (Simon Dodd) - C4 14
6th - Other Californian dude? on a Hobie 14 - Solo
7th - Jasleigh? (Angela) - Naish 14
8th - Lacey ?(Alison) - Naish 14
9th - ????Clarky - DC16
10th - Sue - DC16 with a broken rudder whoops!

Sundays Race looked a bit more promising with an early Ne'r kicking in but just wasn't to be with the wind swinging multiple directions during the race. This race was top heavy with OC paddlers making it exciting for the future of the sport.

Another great weekend for the sport and a big thanks to the OC association for the support no doubt brought about by Sam Williams, Sue Sheard & Jodie Marsh.

Great weekend and thanks for those pics sue. Nice to catch up with everyone.

All i can say is, man that heat stoke i got yesterday wasn't a nice feeling only 2km into the solo! What a hard race with no wind on both days but seriously good fun reguardless.
Great to see the numbers growing and we even managed to get a girls division!

So who's going to race the rotto in jan?

Yeah great W/E we all had a great time. I thought i would mention some one who stood out in the racing and got missed at the pres'o and that was woogie, he did the 12km on a naish 14 which is not the best in those conditions and got a close 2nd to some realy good paddlers which was a good effort.

Great bunch of people, as with every SUP comp i've been to.

Great photo's sue,i notice i'm in nearly all of them

Yeah DJ funny thing we were driving down to coff's and just looked over and BAM there it was in a ditch, How luckys that

See you all in WA for the rotto race..

8 min SUP video from this Event just uploaded, most of you will feature on it. Check out how well some of the boards run, very interesting. Good chance to study the techniques of some of the best paddlers in the world.

Hope you like it, i deliberately missed the start of the OC1 race just to shoot this SUP video and could have got my ass whipped ... lucky for me i have a tough hide....hahaha

Cheers Rambo

Vimeo is experiencing a few hitches globally at the moment, so keep trying if you can't see it.

nice rambo

great to see the difference in equipment on the water

the flat boards looked to be working a treat compared to the heavier rockered boards

by the looks of it you it you need a quiver of boards to suit the conditions that are on offer

well done everyone
