Hi all,

its been about 2-3 years since I last went SUPING and the thing im noticing with all the guys im seeing on the water is how short and wide boards have become.

The board im using is 11' x w28.5" and It seams like im having a much harder time catching waves then anybody else on the water, Im sure alot of is due to my technique, after all its been a long time since iv been on the water, but it would confort me to believe some of it is due to my equipment.

As a beginner do these wider shorter boards make life easier, Im sure the extra width would make a difference to stability but what about the important thing....catching waves?

I guess the real reason of this post is to justify buying a new board! but at the same time Im looking for advice as to what to look for in boards, what i should be looking out for and things like that.

I guess the other important details would be about the rider.

Im 6' 76kg (yep a lanky bastard) and will be mostly surfing around the Fremantle area, (cott dutchies etc)

cheers

Id think you should be finding it easier to catch waves on your 11' . Shorter boards are harder to catch waves on. Maybee its just your time off the water Personally i like longer boards for more allround fun

I've only just stepped into the sport, but the thing I'm noticing is the open nature of the SUP reseller community and their desire to demonstrate the boards and get you onto something that suits you. You should take advantage of this to it's fullest ... at the very least you'll solve the "is it me or my equipment?" question.
