I like the concept.

I've been using a standard 3m foil training kite (without the lines) for a while now for some shorter downwinders. The action is right there with you. It adds a different dimension to what you can do out there and it is a lot of fun. I am not sure about the connection to the board but that can be improved on. It looks slightly better than my toy as the pull is more horizontal than what you get out of a foil kite (too vertical).

Hmmm American idea makes sense now

Just try some bat wings under your arms to your waist and you are away. Might actually be easier to get in your car and drive down wind.

Check out my earlier entry as I have been doing what you want to try out for some time now.

I use a 3m foil training kite and attach its short lines directly to a handle that I made up. The handle needed to be fairly wide so that the kite would fly properly(around 1 metre). This means that the kite is flown directly in front of you so you can launch it easily from your SUP (and drop it easily without getting it wet).

I had to modify the kite by cutting a whole lot of drainage holes in the trailing edge. This was necessary to remove any excess water that might be in the foils. Foil kites are a pain when wet so its better to try keep it out of the water. Another problem with foil kites it that they want to lift you up instead of pulling you forward so you have to fly the kite at a very low angle on either side.

I carry a backback where I can store the kite and also trail a paddle behind my board, just in case.

It's not ideal but I have done some nice 20km downwinders on it, using my original DC11 board (which is nice and stable).

Don't worry about all of the knockers out there. Think outside the square and you will have the most fun.

I have seen one of these before. Some friends introduced me to the Gopro and this sail over Christmas. In about 15kts of wind I tried to race it on my short board, and couldn't keep up in the gusts. They do sail downwind quite quickly. I'll try and post the footage as soon as I can work out how
