Hi all,

I'm approaching 40 y.o. and interested in getting into SUP.

I have no experience surfing etc - I'm a complete novice.

I'm 6'2" and weigh around 85kg.

Any hints or tips on board to buy and things to look out for is much appreciated!

Look in the buy and sell sections tons of bargins , something like this would suit you.

Look for something about 10' long.. and 32" wide.. and yellow in colour.. ..

Where do you live and where will you paddle?

Do you have any SUP shops nearby with demo boards?

In that case, and if you have no interest in driving to surf beaches in the future, there may be other shapes that suit better. What do you hope to get out of the sport? Where will you paddle? River or bay?

I'll probably do a mix of bay and river. I don't plan to use it in surf beaches.

In that case you'd probably be better served with a pointy 12'6 or maybe even a 14 footer. RPS, The Zu and SHQ would all be able to show you stuff and get you on a demo or ten.

All those places are terrific, but don't rule out the Buy and sell section of this website. 12'6" and up Joe Bark, Starboards, Dale Chapman, Lahui Kai, Deep and Fanatics are all good. Try to keep the width under 30.5'.

Mate I'm quite new to SUP also but my recommendation is demo as many boards as you can its surprising how different similar spec boards can be.

For me interested in surf only so I went a Fanatic allwave 8'10 I also Demo'ed a Prowave 9'6(I think) other larger sizes in the allwave a 9'Corban fusion and a Starboard(larger one not sure what model) I'm also around 85kg.
