I hope Oliver and his girlfriend Uli can make it..

Meet at 7pm...Start to paddle at 7.30 and be back about 9.30pm.

We can watch the Casio fire show from the water..you can even feel the heat coming off the huge flames..It's very cool...er..I mean warm..

We did have a great paddle last night on the Yarra..There was about half a dozen of us..and some clumsy bugger fell in......I wonder who that was..

I was getting ready to take a pic of the fire blowing off at the Casino last night and didn't realize that I had my camera on movie mode.

Here's what I got for those who've never seen it..It's only a few seconds worth but you get the idea.

Good question Ian..

I'm sure John will know the answer better than me..It seems a real waste of gas..or whatever they use..I think they let'er'rip every hour..

It's like the Casino is lighting a fart or something...but that's just me with my toilet humor..

I agree that it is a waste of energy, and I agree it is like the casino lighting a fart!
They shine bright lights up into the sky to attract seagulls, then they roast them with these huge fireballs. Specially trained casino staff then collect the roasted gulls, and make them into pies to be served to the casino guests. It's all very environmentally friendly - the fireballs provide warmth and a cozy atmosphere for the stand-up paddlers on the river, and the seagulls were going to die anyway, so why not use the meat? Am I rambling...?...sorry.....

Yeah..I'm ok..thanks for asking....I've had my shots..

It was pretty cold, dark and even windy...Not a good night for a paddle..but still heaps of fun..

Some of us don't feel the cold..

Some of us were sissy's and were way over dressed...That'll teach me..

I didn't use it so others could have a go..I have my paddle way too long for most people..and Marty was joining us for his first time..(and he didn't even fall in).

I used my adjustable alloy Naish paddle..Jeez it's heavy but new people don't know any better..Plus we would be just cruising along...so I thought..

Also because I tend to push myself away from the bluestone rocks that cover the banks of the Yarra..and didn't want to damage my nice new Kialoa.

I think the white paddle blade shows up better at night..I'm not sure if I will use it next time..I missed my Kialoa too much..

DJ, you missed your Kialoa too much? You're starting to sound like Oliver and his pump-up friend Uli.
I can't talk though, I love my gear as well.
