For those that have not seen a C4 board close up they have a neat system that holds your paddle to the board.

They have two leash plugs in the center of the deck..and this new nifty heavy duty velcro stuff looped through the plugs.

Some guys even replace the velcro with thin rope loops and slide their paddle through them and carry the whole thing using the paddle handle.

I don't need to carry my Naish board that way because I have a hand hold thingie in the board.

But..I have found that often the wind will catch it while carrying it and I have to try and hold the board still with the other hand and also not drop my paddle.

So...Before sticking my new deck grip on I put two leash plugs in (equal distance from the hand hole) I now use it to attach my paddle.

This means that I have a free hand to steady the board if caught in a wind gust.

I think it's a good idea..and it would be good for those who struggle carrying their board and paddle together..or don't have a hand hole thingie.

Here's a few pics that I took this-arvo.

btw..these leash plugs only cost a few bucks each and are easy-peasy to put in yourself..or it shouldn't cost much to have it done.

David,
You drilled holes in you new stick? Shame on you.....
What is holding the paddle? It looks tight so how did you get it over the end?

Yeah...Drilling holes in my new board was hard to do..But I'm still glad that I did it...

Actually the guys at Oak surfboards did mine..Because we're old friends..I was buying the plugs and Neil Oak said.."lets do it now it won't take long"..so we did.

What's holding my paddle is the same stuff that C4 use..It's this heavy duty velcro stuff...I got it from the local rock climbing shop..and cut a couple of 5" long bits.

When not in use they roll up and sit in the plug out of the way..or I can remove it from the plug and stick it in my boardies pocket.

It's the Oxbow deck grip (with the oxbow name bit cut off)...given to me by my mate Scotty...(Thanks Scott)..

Scott won it in the sup race we had a couple of weeks ago.

No..it does not have the raised side bits like the JL grip...I'm not sure that I would like that anyway.

Greenroom..Yeah I missed getting a sup in the waves today..Maybe tomorrow.

I wanted to be home in time to watch Bayliss clean up at the island (world superbikes)..So I did a late arvo paddle instead at St Kilda beach.

btw...That velcro stuff is what I've used for years to hold my seat bag on my bike..It's very strong...and it only has to hold the weight of a paddle.

Hi Dave,
Really enjoyed reading and checking out the pics of your 3 day tour through the Victorian country side.Love your bike! what a Beauty!

What a shame about Pete,I hope the damage on his bike was not as bad as it looked.

I currently ride a MX bike, but I am shopping around for a road bike so I can do some touring as well and the odd track day!

I have been looking at the GSXR 600 so to see Petes go down sent shivers down my spine!

Makes me wonder if the sports 600's will be OK for weekend tours?

Dave you should write a book! I reckon you would write a great travel book like SUPing around OZ mentioning all the hot and not so hot spots to paddle and stay and eat at.

Cheers

Luke

Thanks Luke,

btw..Peter's ok..and it's looking like they are going to write off his bike..

If they do..he will buy another Suzuki 750..He loved that bike.

Regarding yourself...I would check out the Suzuki SV 650...They are an awesome bike..a bit of a classic.

They are a V twin..they sound like a Ducati..and would be a great bike for track days and also touring..You should test ride one.

A sports 600 would be ok for weekend rides..but they are rocketships..and just want to go.

You might as well just go down to the copshop and hand your license in..

I'd love to do a SUP'ing trip around Oz...Great idea...I must remember to buy a lotto ticket this week..

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the Tip on the SV 650 they are a great sounding bike and for sure would suit what I am after and has been on my short list.

I have done loads of research and finally made up my mind to get a TRX 850.

I am now on the Hunt!

Will post a pic as soon as I get my hands on her and bring her home!

Cheers

Luke

just thought i'd throw a plug in for the hauling strap i installed on my 12-6 starboard. a couple of inserts epoxied near the rail line and an adjustable guitar strap strung between em. you can loosen the strap or cinch it up tight. you can carry the board under your arm like you see or sling it over your shoulder. another thing is, in the surf, when you're trying to get out of the water, and you're being thrashed about, on my starboard all i gotta do is grab the strap and go.
this is the second set-up like this i've done. the first time around it took me two weeks of pondering my brand new SUP before i could muster up the stones to drill into the wee beast. but once you do it once, it's actually pretty fun.
oh yeah: i'm like the world's worst craftsman, so it's a good thing i was able to cover up my "work" with the pad.

Hi linter...Welcome to the forum.

That looks pretty good...Just wondering tho..Don't those boards have a hand hole thingie to carry them with?

Today I did a lot of board carrying and jeeeez it's a pain carrying some boards..Anything to make it easyer is a good thing..IMO..

yup it does have one of those hand hole dealios but it doesn't really work all that great, imo. the guitar-strap sling is just about perfect for me ... except for the aesthetics of the thing.

G'day linter welcome mate,

I like your idea but im not a big fan of having a strap on there all the time when

paddling, i know its a large board but imo i like the strap that you can buy from

stand up paddlesurf it makes carrying the board easy you dont have to drill any

holes in your board and it rolls up and fits into your pocket

i like that strap too but unfortunately, where i surf, there's no sandy beach to wash up on (or similar) and thence to take the strap out of one's pocket, slip it on the board, etc. i've got rocks and boulders and white water rushing up upon same. when i gotta get out, i gotta get out pdq, which is why the guitar thingy works so swimmingly swell in my particular situation. every system has it's pro's and con's.
btw/ i have yet to get tangled in the strap, to have it get in the way while paddling, or to trip over it etc while standing. yeah it looks like all that might be a problem but in practice and reality, such issues don't arise. as ever ymmv!
