Check out the add on Page 70 in Australian surfing life current edition.

It is an add for Ryobi power saws

and the pics is of a sup and paddle on the beach after being sliced into about 10 pieces by a Ryobi power saw
RYOBI - TOOLS for Surfers is the tag line on the add

Well _ I didnt realise the surfers felt this way about our precious large boards and paddles -

I guess adds and messages like this will just promote the negative rage-

You've gotta laugh.. .. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Afterall.. We're the ones getting most of the waves and having the most fun..

Let's hope most other surfers look at it as a joke also.

i dunno DJ i think this is only the start . for us older guys you can kinda see the joke but thats from a sup's point of view . some people just need to be angry and this will justify that rage .
i dont like how an industry that makes money out of sup can also help fuel division .

Have to agree, sounds like someone is the Ryobi Marketing Team has the poops with Stand Up.
If you were smart, reckon there is a chance to score some real coin out of the ad though, imagine someone going the knuckle with you and you could link the incident back to the ad encouraging violence against Stand Up Paddlers, you could go Ryobi and Surfing Life (as publisher) for a bag of money in a lawsuit.

More likely some smartie at the ad agency had a brain fart and imagined the picture and it all flowed from there.

It's a great picture and good marketing appealing to the ute driving, tradie surfer dude.

I like the picture and the humour of it ... but it's going to wear thin eventually. There's a fine line between good natured stirring and vilification and bullying.

We're all bending over backwards to be good guys in the surf and not hog waves and stuff. It only takes one too many jokes and we could turn into full-on surf nazis if we wanted.

I think that's piss funny.

If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?

It's like anything, if some else is having more fun than you, then you either join them or bag em.

There is a use for every wonderful tool that we have to play in the ocean, the trick is using the right one at the right time.

We see magazines making mistakes like this all the time. They have to understand that SUP's make stores more money than shortboards, it is easier to sell a rich older dude a SUP and he will enjoy it more and probably buy more SUP's than a shortboard. Rich old dudes have more money than hard core skool dropouts that think they're cool. If I owned a mag, i'd be trying to capture as large an audience as possible, and try help my advertizers more money so they buy more ads off me. My 2cents.

yeah, your pretty much right, most of it is rubbish- handyman gear. its kinda unknown, but they do do some high end stuff. i will say one thing, just about every second tradie has an ozito hammer drill. at $79, it goes really well. a name brand hammer drill is about $1,300, which i've had before and regularly had to get them repaired. it sad's, but if it last 3 months i'm a head, the last one went of 15 months and was abused for most of that time. same as hand saws- $12 bucks, last 6 months, throw away. to sharpen a saw is $12 bucks and would probably need to be sharpened twice. as i said it's a sad state of affair's

Could not agree more....
In 2 years I have 3 SUPs (well almost Tully?) 3 carbon paddles, board bags etc etc.And I'm positively frugal compared to some of you guys in the East.(oh and Hilly who is just plain greedy)
As my wife is happy to point out ; after a while it starts to add up!

Working in the ad game, I reckon they (ryobi or the ad agency) are quite clever in picking up on that. They researched their market and figured many of readers of the magazine are tradies and know that sup are an issue to them. I think it's a very creative ad.

I'm laughing at the fact that they have a SUP and paddle cut up by a Ryobi Power Saw. Mine struggled to get through a piece of Balsa. I say that is false advertising myself!

Funnily enough the Ryobi L33L was the planer of choice for any Aussie shaper worth his salt from about 1976 till roughly 97' when they ceased production. Sure they weren't strong enough to pull a sailor off your sister but for cutting foam they were fine and dandy, nice and light too. I digress though, these days most shapers don't even know what a planer is let alone how to use one! None the less I myself thought that ad was pretty funny.

I just sent the seller the below question. I know it's far from the truth but judging by the people in the water yesterday it's not far off at this particular break. I got a little bit of lip from a guy riding a mal on his knees. I found a mens wedding ring in the carpark and asked him is he had lost it, and his reply was "no, maybe you should go hang in the carpark and ask people there". I'm assuming it was a lame attempt at lip.

Ah DJ, you thought I was dead didn't you. For quite some time I've been offline due to a combination of factors. a broken computer, too much work and a girls firm hold on my nuts. Fortunatly a couple of things have been taken care of and now I merely have too much work.
As I glass all the Laguna Bay surfing Sups as well as hand build each and every Penetrator I've been busier than a lizard drinking. All of a sudden I just had way too much to do. I've been making molds for many of the Penetrators componants as well as designing and molding a revised and much improved version of the Toe Turn steering system. Anyone who knows what this involves will realise how time consuming this can be. As far as the Penetrator goes it's pretty much proved itself to be one of if not the fastest Sups in the world in flat to medium conditions. Enter the new design of Penetrator, tentatively dubbed the Storm Series which has been re-designed and modified to make light work of extreme conditions. This boards should be released in a few months time and is hopefully what Woogie will be racing in next years Molokai crossing.
More later and it's good to be back but you gotta watch out. It's a jungle out there.
