My friend Dave and I have been getting right into down-winders and we started with going from St Kilda to Sandy and it took about 1 1/2 hours.

Next we started doing St Kilda to Rickets Point and that took about 2 hours.

Our next plan is to paddle from St Kilda to Frankstone..and we expect it to take at least 4 hours.

We will be way off shore and almost out of sight of land but hopefully we'll see land marks as we get near Frankstone.

Anyone interested in joining us?.. btw..Portsea will be our next goal if Frankstone works out ok.. ... Then Tassie.. (kidding)

Wow DJ that's some serious open water when you get near chelsea heightsWhould you go straight across like you've drawn with the arrow or do hug the coast line a bit more ?

I'm in. I've also been thinking of trying to catch the Melbourne change thing, Northerly in the morning down to Ricketts have lunch then catch the SW change/sea breeze back in the arvo. Only trouble is that every time I try something like this I seem to end up with a headwind both ways!

Danny I think we'll go pretty straight..Well straight from Rickets to Frankstone..maybe a slight curve.

We need a true Nor'wester..If it too much North in it it'll be mostly paddling on the right side only.

We're hoping for a good 30-40 knoter..As we get towards Frankstone the swells should be huge..

Do u pick up many runners DJ?

U would be having so much fun on a 16 footer or something.

I did a few downwinder on a 12 ft and thought it was fun picking up little runners.

But the 16 footers pick them up so easy.

Not that they were many in the race to get.

Thanks guys..

"D.J what board are you gonna use , will you have your new Glide buy then?"

Teatrea I've been using my 11'6" and it seems to work fine (cos I don't know any better).. I will not have my new Naish Glide till the end of November.

I've heard they're selling fast..real fast..and prices continue to go up..So anyone thinking of getting one should cement in an order..and also anyone is welcome to try mine when I get it..(can't wait).

Jake we do get runners..heaps of them..some just seem to go on and on and I just can't help but laugh out loud.. ..and do a big Woooh!!

Hey Stuey I better not try one of your boards..I might like it too much..

So we have Jonathan and Dave so far..anyone else game?

The guys at SHQ are going to let us use their new SUP Downwinder Van..

So the idea is you drive to Frankstone and I pick everyone up in the van..Boards and all..and we drive to St Kilda.. We all do the down winder..and then someone drops me back at the van.. Sounds like a plan..
