I think it's much more a 'look' thing rather than a strength thing..

From what I am told is the veneer simulates a molded board in the boyancy factor. That is all I can contribute.

Hi Paul,

There is nothing to defend!

THe wood veneer or wood look a like tissue does not increase the strenght of any board so thats not a solution to your problem.

The situation you find yourself in living in NZ is a little unique.

The PSH boards are not the issue and it has nothing to do with strength of the boards themselves.

The problem you have is with the transport companies. No matter how well the boards are packed if the idiots handing them do stupid things then you will get a damaged board.

Even with interstate transport within Australia, about 20% of the boards transported sustain some sort of damage in transport and that is only truck over night.

I personally believe that if you order another one you will get the same problem again.

You asked me in a PM what I would do and I replied get a refund and buy one locally whether it be Naish, Mc Sup etc.

If I was Andrew I would send you a refund and I would not agree to send another board I belive its a waste of time for all concerned.

My 2 cents.

Phill

Haven't seen the boards in the flesh but they look like the balsa sandwich surfboards from Bert Berger of Sunova. If that is the case the balsa is used in a similar fashion to the divinicell PVC foam used in many other epoxy sandwich boards. Bert has years worth of experience with these and they work out very light and very strong and with the option of flex if layed up in the right manner.

You seem to pick something out of that question phill, I said nothing about freight or anything of the sort.

It was a question on timber boards.

You say if you were AA you would refund and not bother again

Thats why he is in the game and your NOT.

comments like that trying to start a shot fight which does not concern you.

What is there to defend..I have read all your threads, posts, saw your combative nature, saw your quirks, saw your pictures, etc. and the bottom line is the shippers damaged the board. Pretty simple and straightforward. Any board that got abused like what was in the pictures would have war wombs.
I have ridden epoxy glassed boards, tradition glassed boards, pop outs, etc. and each one has it's good and bad points. Get a refund, new board from PSH or a different company and get in the water. Looking forward to a pic of you riding already.

Aloha

Byron

P.S. What specifics do you want to know?

Let look at the word defend you keep heading for.

Defend.....

If a psh board is mentioned we can have a good 3 pages looking at it.
PSH riders that love to talk about there board

The word defend may have come across wrong on a computer anyway.

Not defend the board in the sense your looking at

Just clearing that up.

BP - If you really are interested in a veneer board do what Hilly did and come to Hawaii. Maybe you can talk PSH into selling you one. Maybe this video might entice you to come to Hawaii. Cannot guarantee you will get one though....

Thanks...Just don't want someone twisting anything. Not interested in that just interested in getting in the water and ripping it up. Hopefully BP will do that one day.

Honestly BP, all the manufacturers are putting out really good boards. Naish & Starboard both have boards that will perform as well as any PSH. Are neither of these brands available in NZ? Surely Naish would be there somewhere.

I hope you work something out. From that last long PSH topic I thought you had come to some agreement with AA. Maybe this was the 2nd board you got that was damaged, I'm not sure

And in answer to you original post, I was of the understanding from internet research that timber laminated onto a board did add strength. A number of shapers have said this. More so from heel dints and impacts but not snapping.

Hi, yes we have naish and starboard. But psh was my first choice then mactavish

I have requested a refund from AA now but if he feels he can work out something im open to suggestions. The big problem here is getting the boards here safe

I also would like to look at the 9'3 ripper and my next board could be the 12ft but as it is proving to be a real problem to get them here it is becoming clear to me its going to be a ongoing issue .

With no dealer here i and others have no choice but take the gamble all the time and it has worn me down after now two boards.

So i may well purchase here now as i can see it and put it on my own roof

I am sure PSH are built just the same as any epoxy board but do seem softer to me.

Believe me i would like nothing more than another board as i am loosing out both board wise and in $$

bp,looking at your comments, rail tape, paddle edge protection etc, i think a starboard would be good for you. i've been surfing the 7'2" converted to quad. everything happens a lot faster on it and i have belted the board hard a lot of times with no damage. they are very tough boards.
cheers
ps i am not aligned with an production boards, just MO
