The 9'3 Hokua looks like it would be better suited to my weight vs the 9'6

??

Opps No it wont its only 125l

The 9'0 mact has 130 so may be a better bet.

The 9'3 is not a forgiving board at all, I have surfed it and it is plain hard work all the time.

I have a friend here who is an excellent longboarder and all round good comp surfer and he struggles on the 9'3.

Mate. Fly up to the 'Naki have a go on them both see the construction and abuse i've given them, see the yellow and join the club.
Can't go wrong with the 9'6 as a first if you got some balance, i was using mine as a choppy day board but current seems to grab the fins so want the 9'5 for something to relax on and not have to stress on the steady.
Bloody good boards but have nothing to compare. Just seem to get smaller as i progress and naish reasonably priced if you get now with dollar high.

Well, I am a little lost now as you guys mentioned and now agreed by myself and AA its best to look here for now.

This is like a candy shop with only 2 lollys in it.

Matavish and naish. I am sure 150litres of the 9'6 is far to corky for 85kg

And im unsure of the 9'0 at 130litres

Naish surf series are rather small.

Anyway just chucking the idea out there

BP my Surfshapes is 150L and I weigh 85kg. It's wide and it's stable and I can take it out in just about any conditions but it still has far more performance than I'll ever use. IMO you don't want to go too small on your first board. I'd be looking at the 9'5 mana, Starboard 10'5 and the McT 9'6 or 10'. Unless your an extremely good surfer, all these boards should challenge you plenty. Just my opinion.

hi bp, just an idea, why don't you get a second hand board, learn your chops, then demo a lot of boards. one, its cheaper. two, you can go to town on it and not have to worry about damage and resale value to much.three, you are getting experience and learning your likes and dislikes in a sup boards. come time to get a newie you will know pretty much which board to get. this is what i would do for a first board if i had my time again
cheers

These are my local choice, Naish 9'3 and 9'6 I dont like the mana

Mac 9'0 130l and the 9'6 150l

It will have to be one of these.

From what i understand the surfshapes boards are short but wide and thick.

Hi lacey, Second hand is like looking for gold on the road. It just does not happen here. I wish it did but i know of only two boards sold in 12 months in the 9/9'6 range.

Just go the 9'5" Mana and be done with it.

You say you don't like it.. but.. paddle all three and then see what you think.

I'm sure then you'd go the Mana..

yes it is. i was 77 kg's. i tried it for 2 day's in rubbish and didn't fall off- you could have picnic on it. surfs really good, but at my weight i felt it was a bit to much board. it is a quad hence the tail, but don't let that put you off. remember a couple of months ago a guy on the coast posted a vid- i thought the board was awesome- fast and flashy

Re the question is it under loaded.

Yup Brooko and I are 105kg or more like 107-8 at the moment.

Brooko and I Sup something like 5 - 7 times a week minimum before or after work.

Brooko supps wave that make me run away and cry both on short board and sup!

I have supped 16 different boards between 7.2 and 12ft in conditions from 6" to 2OH+

Kristi, Rich and I often sup on weekends from 6am till 4-6 pm at 3 different breaks a day x 2 days.

Question:

1) How many different boards have you actually supped?

2) How many times have you actually supped?

The 9'6 will challange you no question!

I agree with the other guys go safe buy the manna 9'5 and enjoy life.

Its really not that hard to choose a board.

Thanks phill, It is hard for us here as we dont have your range. And no demos

That is a lot of SUP time

I agree, Its not hard this is why i went for psh. But we wont go there at the moment.

My board choice first is the 9'3 ripper and the w- ripper

If i could get away with the 9'3 i would be in love.

og has a real point, most breezer's have worked their way to the level of yeah it does floater's and reo's etc and it all sounds so easy. do not think you are going to jump on a board and away you go. i'm a reasonably good surfer of 30 years and when i started i used to think - how do they get out in 5 ft surf, how can they do floaters etc on such big boards. i've seen very very good surfers look like gooses because they thought they would just jump on and go. i have only ever seen one guy jump on a 9'3"wr and catch waves and he weighed 50 kg's. the point is, forget a 9'3" anything at your weight unless you like getting the ##### every time for the first 3 months. do the time on a comfortable board
cheers
ps must seem like everyone is instructor giving you advice- sorry

My Point exactly Lacey,

One of the guys we sup with is out and out a champion longboarder, one of the best shapers in the country he is totally off the hook and he still rides a 10'6.

A very good mate of mine Matty rides a 9'3 Naish hes is 88 ish kg and it has taken him 7-8 months 5hrs a day min to get really good on it. When he started he couldnt even stand on the thing. He also is a very good surfer.

At the OG 13Day there were 2 very high profile Industry guys who tried out the 9'6 Naish these guys absolutely rip on short boards and they struggled in 15 - 20kt offshore.

Its all about being realistic.

Phill
