I have kept some close notes on paddle races for the last 18 months or so and it seems the one thing you can count on is what your expecting to happen wont.
Distance races turn into BOP, courses change radically, timing of the races during the day change etc.
Its all understandable in most cases due to weather but really that doesnt help much.
Its easier when your close to home to put a few different boards on the roof but when traveling its a whole different ball game to say the least.
If your doing prep for a race taking on fluid, gells etc and your all set for a certain kick off time and the race doesnt go on time this makes things again pretty interesting.
Just some food for thought.

one thing you can count on is every race starts of as sprint. it's the ability to recover from that start and then settle into a good rhythm that is the key otherwise, well you know the rest.however you can train for it
