Well thank you to Mike and Paul at SHQ for all their help over the last couple of weeks. The customer service has been awesome.

The PSH 10'6" AR was too big a gap from the laird 12ft so I am trying the PSH 11ft.

I love my Laird in big surf but in small on shore its a PITA.

So back to Barwon River for another kick turn session and lets see what this 11ft baby will do.

Ok with 105kgs to play around with to motivate this board it really wips around. The board has a sweet spot just before mid board and its far more sensitive to weight transfer than the Laird. The PHS 11 pivots really well off the tail and is quite predictable in the way it turns.

It paddles quite quickly and it gets onto a plane a little faster than the Laird even though it has more rocker.

The tail on the PSH 11 has far less volume and it has a tighter plan shape so it should surf well. The extended v in the tail will help rail to rail and the harder edges should also let the board release well.

The PSH feels quite lively under foot and I cant wait to get it into the surf if there is any tomorrow. Me thinks a road trip to Juc or beyong is required.

I have recruited the Grey Guru for support, surf report as soon as there is any!

Hi Phil,

I am 6'2, 100kg and have the PSH 10'6 wide AA. I tested it alongside the 10'6 AA and 11' AA. The 10'6 wide is noticeably more stable than the standard 10'6, probably about half way in between it and the 11'. If after surfing the 11' you preferred the way the 10'6 surfed then the 10'6 wide would probably work well for you, although it may take you longer adjust to the size difference.

I am maybe a tiny bit heavier than you and have surfed the 10 6 " wide allrounder quite a few times, I reckon it is as stable as the 11 6" Kalama , maybe the most stable board I have ridden In the surf If you are looking for a sub to use In the surf I would definatley be trying the wide all rounder before you fork out your hard earned cash.

From what I can gather from your posts, this board has your name written all over, surfs really well, nearly impossible to fall off, you could land an f 18 on it

Brooko I tried the 11 wide today in the surf at 13th beach and was blown away by the way it surfs.

It looks a lot like the laird and the crew wanted to know if I had been on the roids or some coke over night.

I pulled off cutties with ease and ripped some really agressive turns. One of the waves I caught will be in the memory bank for life.

I tried to bog the rail many times but just could not make it happen, the boxy rails just squirt you out the other side.

The swell is up tomorrow and I am just itching to try it in some size to se how it compares to the Laird.

My wife thought I had won the lotto from the cheshire cat grin when I waked in.

I will definetly try the 10'6" wide, but the 11ftr is definitely a possibility.

G'day Phil,

I said G'day to you in the OG car park bout 2:30 today. Was that the PSH 11'er that you were strapping to the roof then, nice looking board. I was gonna have a chin wag on the way back from checking the conditions but you were already taking off. I paddled with you and Murf about 7-8 months ago one Saturday morning.

Had my first paddle in waves since the start of Jan today, been out of the water due to injury. Was great to get back into the waves even if it was cross shore 1 ft shorey. Felt like I was starting all over again for the first hour.

Cheers

Blane, out of interest what is the volume of the 10'6 wide. Searched but could not find the answer, May as well go to the source.

Hey Drewstar, I think I can answer for Blane as he has his head buried in the shaping room right now, developing new models.

The key to all these new generation boards is how the volume is distributed, so overall volume does not tell the full story. I know it is traditional in the Windsurfing game to use volumes but I don't think you will find many of the more surf-based shapers using volume as it does not tell the full story. As you know - its where you put it and how you use the volume that counts!

PS: without a doubt it is a handy measurement when you cannot view the boards, I just don't think it will be forthcoming.

Hi Blane,

Today I really had a chance to put the 11 wide through its paces. I surfed a nice point break know as secret spot 78UB. The waves dead clean and were between overhead and mabye 1.5 overhead.

I really tried to push the board and myself to the limit and over. I went out for 45 mins and finished almost 5 hours later.

You name it i tried it:
Late drops where i thought the nose would bury no problem,

Ripping bottom turns driving with every ounce of strength I had again no problem

This board pivots on a dime when you want it to and comes of the top like a gem, I almost busted the fins out, according to one of the guys as I paddled backout.

This board just loves to be thrown down the face as hard and as fast as you can. In turns were the laird busted loose the 11 wide held on and pivoted around the paddle just wanting more speed.

I am totally wasted and blown away by how well the 11ft board performed. Without a doubt the best surf of my life!!!!!!!!!

To sum it up the 11 ft is a weapon in bigger surf for a big guy. I now know why Tom Carrol loves this board.

If I thought I could get away with it the only word in my mind at the moment is "Bells" lol but I dont think the local crew would approve.

I have to try the 10'6 wide if it turns better than the 11 with my weigh I would be in heaven.

Blane I will buy either the 11ft or 10'6" wide (one or the other), if you have anyone down my way who want to demo it when i get it send them my way. I just want to see the expresion on their face after riding one of your boards.

Also again a huge thank you to Rich at Strapper for putting me on to SHQ and to SHQ for allowing me to demo the board. You have 2 very fine dstributors that are working together to mutual benifit.

I have to go the wind has dropped and there is a slight chance i might get another SUP in today. Gone!

Drewsta, Approx 167 liters of foam volume on the 10-6 wide model. 11' is Approx 177 liters. I keep records of this sort of thing... Like AA said, not an important thing as rocker, foil, rail contours, bottom shape, outline, and the actual distribution of the volume through all these things matters most...

OG SUP,
The 11' is meant for someone with some weight that has talents enough to lay into turns. I figured it would make that person smile but also for people who just want a stable board to paddle that's fairly big. You sound like you are putting it through its paces and the person smiling now is you. Have fun! BC

Hey Brooko,

Whether the fins came out or not I am still buzzing

To turn the laird 12ft in small surf takes a awefull lot of ommph. I was just applying the same amount of force I usually do and what normally gave me a nice sweeping turn resulted in (for me anyway) a pretty radical result all be it for an 11fter. When I realised how well it ripped a turn I just had to push as hard as I could to see what would happen.

When the guys around you who normally see SUPERS as Kooks are telling you your killing it something must be right?????

I have to wipe the drool off before I take the board back laughs.

Wonders if the new boards have a handle in the center as it is a big sucker to lug up the stairs at 13th in the wind or a long walk down the beach.

Makes a note that the difference in vol between 10'6 Wide 167l and 11 Wide 177l is only 6% Hmmmmm very interesting.

Hey Brooko,

Well me thinks the 10'6 wide will be enough of a challenge at first and we will work up from there. I'll get to the 9'6 in time, I have already set that goal.

I have a friend who is going to push me with different manouvres so the fun is all to come.

Roll on May to July with bigger surf.

Phill.

Mate , you will be suprised how quick you will progress to the 9 6"... the 10 6" W AA will be perfect for you for a while, then you will out grow that when fitness and skill picks up and before you know it you will be on a 9 6". I think Rich at strapper has a 9 6" WAA that he may let you test out.

Brooko,

I had a very quick surf with Rich the other day and I am sure he would let me have a spin but the 9'6 is outa my range right now lol.

I dopped him off about 1100 pics from the Vicco State SUP Titles.

Kristi and I have a passion for taking surf pics and I have done a few commercial assignments as well when the need presents itself.

This is one of my favs

Small Mushy and Hard Work,

Today the waves at 13th were about knee height and really had no push. Ideal to see how the big board would perform in these conditions in summer.

Well an 11fter in this size surf is never fun, just way too much board for the wave. I did get some nice top and bottom turns and could easily go to the nose on my back hand ( wonders why I cant on my forehand????) The board really locks into the face which surprised me due to the hard rails and really rips along when it hits trim. I didnt expect it to be anywhere near as stable as it was.

Over all conclusion:

This board performs well in all conditions and paddles quite well in flat water.
In bigger surf it is just a weapon and an absolute pleasure to rip around.
The board locks into the wave well and is very stable when walking the board.
The boxy rails pretty much will not allow it to bog a rail (and I tried hard)
It turns off the tail on a dime
Extremely stable even in 20kn onshore condidtions with rips and cross waves cant ask any more than that!

In short if your a big guy 100kg+++ this is a great all around board that even a beginer will get a great buz out of. If you really like to push it hard in bigger surf overhead +++ it is a real winer.

Hi OG SUP thanks for the review, I'm a bit lighter at 86kg, how do you think the board would go with my weight. I'm looking for an allrounder too. Will demo the board soon but wondered what your thoughts were.

Hey Mick,

Tell me more about your SUP experience like:

How long you have been supping?

What types of waves do you want to ride?

How many other boards have you tried?

How much of your time will be surfing versus flat water?

At your weight this board would really paddle well on flat water and by changing the fins you would have a very capable board in the surf as well.

Adam (80 -85kg) a friend of my surfed the PSH 11ft on the weekend at OG. He has owned an 11ft NSP for 6mths and wanted some thing for flat water and surf. He was amazed how stable it was and how well he could rip turns. He fell in love and wouldnt give the PSH board back laughs. i believe he is buying one this week.

What area are you in?

I can get you a demo board and take you out at OG for a spin if you like.

If your more advanced the 10'6 wide or even the 10'6 might be more your board.

Regards

Phill

This is

prolly my last post on this topic

I have set the 11ft wide up as a thruster just to see what would happen and it just gets better and better. Its truely loose for a Big Kahoona (100kg+) and will spin on a dime. If you dont believe it message me and I will take you for a spin.

If you can find a board that paddles this well in flat water and you can rip in the surf buy it.

Its a true all arounder.

Best regards

Phill
