$489 down the spout.
I had a paddle late last Friday arvo and left my paddle leaning up against a pole at the Cooks river boat ramp at Kyeemagh in Sydney. I only realised this morning as I opened the back of the van and saw the empty paddle cover (I always put paddle in cover). It was dark when I got back from paddle and leant paddle up against pole to put Sup on roof and drove off without it. It was a 9" Kanaha.
Tip: Grab a white waterproof texta an write your mobile number on it.
There were a few fisherman around at the ramp and I would like to think if I had my mobile on it they would have called. I will go back and put up a few signs with reward. Fingers crossed.
Looks like it's just me and the Big Mama now.

Bummer.. It's one of those things you never do twice..

I was lucky when I did it because it was a crappy home made paddle.. I was still pissed..

I always check now before I drive off.

Yep, lesson learnt.
I take it back - I'm NOT shattered. Paddles can be replaced - lives can't.
I just gotta get this into perspective.
If this is my biggest worry at present, the I'm doing OK.
Cheers DJ

Shattered is when you drive off down the road with your board on the roof of your car without the board strapped down. You realize 30 minutes later your board is missing and there are no signs of the board anywhere. I'll never forget that day.

Hope you find your paddle though.

Nah, shattered is when you've had a whole day SUPing a cracking point break with your mates and you're so shattered you can barely open a beer to celebrate!

Paddling ABC Boys...

A - Board on roof
B - Board strapped down
C - Paddle in car

I do my ABC check before I get in the car to drive.

Optional "D" - wettie, towel, boardies, leggie, etc...

I just spoke to Phill about this on Saturday actually.

I have almost done that quite few times now. I make a point of placing the paddle somewhere that i will notice it. Maybe lean it aginst the car. You will hear it as you drive off. Hope you get it back.

Simondo, I'll add an E...

Check you put the fin and the screwdriver in the car after taking it off the board to stack on the roof rack.

And F...

If you have nicely cut foam pads that sit on your roof rack, make sure that you take them off the rack and put them safely inside the car when not in use. Double check if you are borrowing someone else's car and/or rack pads. (Jonathan, we need to talk)

I always lean my paddle between the drivers side mirror and the car door so I cant help to notice it when I drive off!

I devised that after a tip on here, when you get off the water take your paddle to the car first, you are very unlikey to forget your board.

I always put my paddle on top of my board on the grass after being out, then the paddle goes in the car first, followed the board.

After years of windsurfing I have gotten used to checking for left over bits before I leave, put that down to years of lost harnesses, fins and mast extensions....

Same here. Except there was no grass at the boat ramp + it was pitch black. I always put Sup on grass then paddle straight in the van. I leaned the bloody paddle up against a pole and you know the rest.
