Hi All

Does anyone get sore upper arms (does not feel muscular and not stiffness/general soreness) after a long SUP session? Different to Tennis Elbow which occurs below the elbow.

After Kitestock aka SUPstock paddle sessions I would get a sharp pain in my upper left arm above my elbow. I'm still getting it after a paddle. After a day it subsides and a couple more days is disappears, but rears its ugly head after a long session.

Never suffered from this before, does anyone have any words of wisdom so I can to avoid a trip to the Physio?

Cheers

Hi,you need to use your torso more and bring your big back muscles into play,if you use your arms mostly in paddling they will blow up,especially on long paddles.

I find tiger balm red before and after a long paddle works well on the effected area. I don't know why....

But don't leave in on your fingers it's not red for nothing

When I first started paddling I developed tennis elbow.
I was paddling with a package deal paddle and it was towards the heavy end of the scale and very stiff.
I then got myself a quality brand paddle and have never had tennis elbow again!
Try a different paddle,it might help.

Relax you hands when you paddle, you might find you are griping your shaft to tight

You might have a slight shoulder injury and it is referred pain , a supraspinatus injury on the top of you shoulder is pretty common amoung paddlers. , Jacko's tip is a good plus you should make sure you don't have too stiff a paddle.

Keep the shaft entry smooth too , you dont want to rush things that will lead to premature shoulder problems

There's a young gun Footy player at Geelong called Billie Smedts. He's only 19, and he and his twin sister (a state netballer) have both had hip surgery, shaving off some little knuckles in the hip socket / joint.

I guess the same could be possible in the shoulders... ? ...

(Even though the original question was more about arms)

You might be using too much "elbow" motion in your technique. Get a good paddler to have a look at your technique too.
