Agree Loco, when someone reports on a new product would be good to hear how they received it which is already the case on some occasions and adds to the story.

The tragedy of these ridiculous topics is that eventually people like DJ will walk away because there is only so much ridicule people will take.

If people disapear, you'll then be wishing you never whinged and you'll miss what they contribute.

Get a grip for gods sake and if you don't like it or feel threatened by what others offer, don't read the damn post !

IMO, the more that can be shared by way of images, the better story can be told regardless of the brand and agenda.

I actually agree with OG (suprise) that the thumb thing is a total wank and I believe it should be removed from the forum. the whole idea I thought was to post your thoughts and comments and ideas etc and if you have got nothing to say about a topic then just S.T.F.U !!! and move on. If you have something to say or don't agree then post it and have your two bobs worth - get some balls and get involved and stop hiding behind a mouse click on the red thumb. Why the hell are we given the option to vote with a thumb on what someone says - we aren't here for votes we are here for expression. To me the thumbs are just a w.o.f.t and detract from the topic at hand.
Really the only thing that pissses me off with the pimping is when someone posts a question about a particular board and the usual suspects always jump on and give an endless blurb about every board under the sun EXCEPT the board that was enquired about. I believe that if you can make a constructive comment about the board enquiry then by all means do so but if you know nothing about the board then you have no right to say anything really and if you really want to pimp your sup then send the person a pm with your suggestions.

Billboard if that doesn't get rid of the thumbs then nothing will,
well said by the way.

As a newbie to SUP and to Seabreeze, it really has been great to log on and get up to speed with what is happening in this fantastic sport around the world.

Due to there being so many opinions etc and lots of eyes scouring the internet for content, I have been able to watch videos and see photos I probably wouldn't have been able to find by myself. I have also been able to find out more about who out there makes boards, what the new developments in shapes are, etc.

I really appreciate the fact that even a newbie can post a topic and get lots of useful help from seasoned SUPers - I would hate to see guys not wanting to contribute for any reason whatsoever.

I say "if it aint broke, don't fix it!"

Really the point is being missed-I'm stoked to read people's opinions on boards and photos etc. and I'm pretty much aware (at least I think) who has an association with which brand (and by this I mean not as a regular punter owning a particular brand-but someone that gets buffed by a brand or is the importer etc.).

There's no desire to put restriction on anyone, just a call to honesty to make it clear when someone is commenting on a particular product (for or against), or posting opinion, that they disclose their association.

Again-just asking for some honesty-can't see there's anything too affronting in asking for that-is there?

Use of the Thumbs is a quick and easy way to show your like or dislike of a certain comment. There are some people whom, for a variety of reasons, are reluctant to post a comment (lurkers). Anecdotally these lurkers make up a large proportion of visitors to any internet site ( I dont know if this is true for Seabreeze but I presume it would be the same). Adding a thumbs functionn gives them a quick anonymous way to interact with the forum and could perhaps even be a stepping stone to actually commenting. Anything that encourages the silent majority of Seabreeze users to interact is not necessarily a bad thing IMO.

However like any anonymous method of interaction it is open to abuse and I believe this makes the thumbs app of questionable value. Here are some modiifcations I can think of. Feel free to critique them or suggest your own in the spirit of improving the site

- Red vs Green for the OP only
- Have a number count for Red vs Green
- Scrap the red thumbs altogether. Green only.
- Facebook style: Green only with names attached

Hey Guys!

I thought that since everyone else was posting what they thought, I'd throw in my two cents!

I suppose I'd be classified as a lurker and from my point of view when I see all these posts that are written by DJ or JB or whoever, "pimping" I can honestly say that all I see is someone enjoying their board, whatever the brands. Maybe you have to be associated with a brand or own a SUP shop to see the "pimp-side of things". If you have a problem with soemone posting too much of one brand, then just put up a post about your favourite brand/board or whatever.

I'm the proud owner of a Naish, an Airwaves and an Imperial and when I post pics of them I'm not trying to pimp just showing everybody on the froum what these boards can do.

And lastly, c'mon if you don't have the guts to write your opinion then don't red thumb people - its the cowards way out!

It's only semi-anonymous. I've noticed that sometimes the forum says that someone's replied to a thread and you go into the thread and they haven't at all - they've thumbed someone instead. Happened to me today actually (not the first time). I'd posted in the SPSC thread and came back later and it had a name and date and time under the Last Post column (not naming who but it gives an actual avatar name) and then I went in the thread and there was no reply.

the whole red thumb thing makes me sick, so negative. IT IS NOTHING MORE THAN BRAND X verse BRAND Y verse BRAND Z. red thumbs only appear when a brand topic appears, absolutely no logic behind most of the thumbing. that's why the system needs to be flushed down the toilet

You may be partially right about that but I also discovered today that when you edit your own post, even hours after first posting, the edit goes back in order where you first posted but you become the name in the Last Post column anyway. So the person you think red thumbed you may have edited their own earlier post.

As for banning the red/green thumb, I only just became aware that it existed thanks to this thread. Just ignore it folks.

Isn't this a forum about a sport we love to do. We all read it so we can find out what everybody else is experiencing. Being a new sport we need feedback from all areas to make an informed decisions. I will buy a product if I need it, not because someone stuck glossy pictures in a thread, infact i will buy products from locals before the big brands. The more pic's that DJ puts in the better. It makes time in the office more bearable. As far as the red thumbs, I don't even look at them.
Just get back to reality, enjoy your time on the water, read interseting stories here, and keep the dream alive because dreams are what keeps me going.

On'ya Kristi !

Great words.

I was a Naish man, then a Star-board now Surftech (and that's all in the last 6 weeks) so I've got no hope of being pigeon holed.

I totally agree, for the most part, it's just people who are stoked with their board giving it a rave and good on them - and if it's someone who's got other reasons, well good on them too !

I still believe pimping is a contribution and still better than those who just read, soak other peoples knowledge, never post and sit on the sidelines......in whatever way they contribute, it's still a contribution and without all types, the forum seeks to exist in a worthwhile manner.

BTW, Surftech SUP's are sweet and I have an association with Dripping Wet Bondi as he's a mate ! Hope that's OK ?

Makaha,

I think if you look back through the threads you will find that we disclosed that the day it happened and thanked Kialoa. Does that make Kristi a "SPONSORED RIDER"?

In the last few month we have travelled 2000+ Kms going to events and demo days and comps and I only ever remember paying the bills myself!

Kialoa gave kristi the paddle as it is aimed at kids and more particularly women to give them feed back. She surfs daily when its good and can provide credible feedback over time.

I think you might find it was Casso who did the uber review on the Pipes on the forum.

When Kristi has used the paddle enough to make an informed comment and that doesnt come from a 30 min surf in one set of conditions she will write a review herself, does this then become a pimp if it displays good bad and ugly?

We have loaned that paddle to many many people some liked it some hated it but at least they got to try before they bought and were informed and thats the point!

I reply to many many PMs per week where people ask questions away from the forum because the dont want to appear to look silly. If i dont know I say I dont know.

If I think a PSH or a Naish or Snow Board or a C4 would suit them that is the way I would suggest they go and tell them to demo everything first.

I regularly do paddles on the river down here with almost every brand of board I can lay my hands on so people do get choice and get to try everything before they buy.

You only see one small aspect to what is going on.

Phill

I've said this before in earlier threads on this topic. I like having the industry people putting time in on the forum. I understand this thread is not about banning so called "pimping" but about "disclosure". However, I think that if a person takes the time to read this forum long enough and become a part of the Seabreeze Sup community, they will get to know who has industry associations and who is just stoked on a product or service. Most of the industry people do disclose their associations at some point (not every post). It's just a matter of reading the forum long enough and taking the time to read what is said, unlike BP, who always seemed to know the answer before he asked the question and never listened to any of the advice he asked for.

Lacey, I just red thumbed you. Looks like you may be going for a record so I thought I should help out.
