LOL..that cloud looks like the wall of doom. I think a message was being sent.

How far out do you folks typically get on your downwinders. I can't stop thinking of how much fun I just had in Maui but at the same time how easy it was to possibly get in trouble depending on the area you'll be in. A sudden change in wind, heavy offshore, and you're headed for Tahiti.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. If only we had done the surfing expedition on Saturday when it was still and the downwinder today when it was windy. I think I spent a total of 6 hours driving this w/e for 2 hours in the water.

I know how you feel Oliver.

This was The Pines today.. No water.. and no waves..

I was tempted to wander out and remove some of those tall rocks that seem to jump in front of you when the tide's getting low.

This was Flinders.. Also pretty crappy.. The waves out of the point were in a having the tops blown off by the 30 knot westerly.

BTW... At the Gunnery there was a surfing comp that I sat and watched for a while and it was at least double overhead in the big sets.. but stormy and messy.

DJ

Hey Stony... We usually go about 15-20 klms on our down wind runs.

Is this a bad time to say that the Surf Coast had great waves on both days.

Today was overhead + and super clean at certain breaks.

Hmmm maybe the ferry is the answer?

Just trying to be helpfull.

It was basically the same as yesterday except the rain came later. It switched from N to WNW just after 9:00 so you would have been blown ashore just the same.

BTW. I finished kiteboarding at 3:00 and the rain came through at 4:00. Guys were kiteboarding in rain so heavy that you could barely see them. The new gear is so much safer than it used to be. Last time I saw conditions like that a kite ended up on the roof of a house.

The run from Altona/Williamstown across to St Kilda would have been alright on Sunday from the looks of things

Shame about the heavy rain tho.. It was so heavy and it was even stinging your back..

Well I'd definitely be keen. The forecast is still for a 40kph northerly peaking around midday.

Should we start another thread?

It is looking good..

Shame Jonathan and Dave are away but I'm sure we'll still have a few join in.
