I went for a paddle today and noticed that when i got my board out of it's bag it as still wet on the deckgrip from last weekend - I've noticed this before even with surfboards that can stay wet for a few weeks.

Are there any problems with putting a board away in a travel cover while it's still wet?

Does anyone get them out and dry them at home after a surf?

Thanks
Shane

My board always goes in the bag wet but I usually leave the bag partially open. Never had any problems before but with my Starboard I have noticed a strong smell when I open the bag. I suspect it could be the chemical that Starboard use for the bluetouch deck grip. Anybody else have the same thing?

For drying it out, try either standing it upright (if you have the head room in the garage...) The water will drain down with gravity. Also try unzipping the bag when you get home. I definitely would not take the board out to dry ! Unless you have a safe place for it, and you like looking at it

Most of the boards are epoxy, and the epoxy is probably off-gassing for a fair period of time, and the board bag would trap it. My Tropical Blends does have a bit of a resin-epoxy smell coming out when I open the bag... it's that "new board smell".... a variation on the "new car smell"

Also, watch out for too much salt water on steel zip heads.... It can make the zips freeze up. Try WD40 / or Silicone Based Motorcycle Chain Lube. Worst case on an old bag with a stuffed zip, try cutting the zip out, and hand stitching in a couple of velcro taps.

I have a Jimmy Lewis and if I put it away wet and leave the bag zipped up, it gets a funky smell next time I pull it out. It comes from the deck pad.

I always leave the bag open about 150mm to allow for some air to circulate.

Good idea, and also never open the decompression screw while putting a wet board in a bag... the foam will happily absorb the air humidity, it can amount to one cup of water...

Try also not to leave the zip head at the same place each time (if you feel the zip head willing to stop naturally at some place, move it a bit). This will limit risk of lock by salt buildup

I wipe all my gear down with a car chamois after a session. It all goes away clean and fairly dry.
