After watching some of your vico films and photos, I thought i would throw up some photos of our fine queensland weather....unfortunately the swell dropped today so i have no good wave photos...and i caught all the sets with my board not the camera....
Heading for the Island..

Getting close...

Surf small but uncrowded....

little rights

Rights or lefts you pick....

Heading home..

Thats it...for now.

I think kongs island is nth NSW..this spot is fickle...catches a lot of wind and backwash from the rights mess the lefts and so forth....don't go there often just when conditions suit > 5 knots..

I was staying at Kingscliff and left this morning so I missed the storm.

Sunny here in Melbourne today - only 10C cooler. Now where is this island?

The recently passed Peter TRoy had the lease of the island for many years , remains of his original stone hut are still there.

Pete was surfing and living there on and off from early '70 s ,Trawler guys and Clubbies were regulars prior to Pete.

Very tricky gap in the rocks on the northern side for dingy access.Got a few old b/w shots of the guys unloading gear from timber surf skis paddled from Mooloolaba.

Best waves on our part of the coast.

Don't boat over and anchor, the anchors are distroying the reef, the paddle over is so easy on a SUP.

I surfed Old woman Island on a goatie back in the eighties, easy paddle as you say. I was surprised I hadn't heard you Sunshine coast guys talk about it. Would have thought it an awesome SUP wave if you like em sucky and powerful. More like a Sydney reef break.

Old Women Island or Mudjimba Island as it is listed is now part of the Maroochy River Conservation Park. The lease was also once owned by Sean Connery as well.

Aboriginal legend says it was created in Dreamtime when Coolum and Nindery had a fight over a women called Maroochy. Ninderry knock off Coolums' head and that is where it lies. (http://coastbeaches.com/web/beaches/oldwoman.html)

The paddle over is done by a lot of locals but does cover a deep hole / channel where large grey suits have been frequently seen.

Great surf on the right conditions. The rights can be suckier and stay away from the outer point as the rocks / barnacles are large and sharp.

Got me a bit excited there RMAC when I saw these pix. I surfed the place unreal once in about 1989 when Peter Troy had it. Me and a kneeboarder got taken out there by boat from Mooloolaba, believe it or not for a photo shoot for the Sunday Mail newspaper, and had a blast on that right hander. Peter had a surfshop on the Sunny Coast back then and me and the kneelo went straight in after the session to tell Pete how good his island was. He was stoked. Finished up having a long talk with him and listened to amazing story after amazing story about his adventures and discoveries in the 60s and 70s. What a legend, he made a big impression on me. Really sorry to hear that he has died, didn't know that. But he definitely lived a full life. Vale Mr Troy. And yes it would be wicked to SUP it.

they caught a 4 foot white pointer pup at the island a couple of years ago and took it over to underwater world at mooloolabah, when they dropped it in with the other sharks they went to the bottom and stayed there until the pup got sick and the staff removed it and released it back at the island,i wonder where mummy was.

Sounds good. Definitely keen to try and start Supping it. Its a bit far from Noosa though without a car.

I honestly have never heard of Kongs island. I always knew it as old woman and wasn't sure it he didn't want the name to be said.
