Hi,
I realize the paddle has an angle on the pad, meaning it is not straight. So, the pad is tilted. My question is, do I have to paddle with this angle tilted up, so then when I catch a wave it doesnt touch the water?
Thank you.

No, you can keep the padle tilted down when riding waves.

The paddle is angled to achieve better reach from the front of the stroke ( I am sure some one can explain it better than that though!!!)
