Finally got our hands on this little puppy!

Very easy to install.
Mark the centre line of the board with string.
Find the balance point (with fins in - duuh Robby!) either with a sling off the garage roof or use the tope of a Saw horse. Balance the board and mark the balance point. This is the centre of the handle when fitted.
Cut out windows in your grip using the two eliptical TABS as templates.
Remove grip. Lightly sand. Prime using primer supplied. Stick down and wait for it to set.

Waiting 72 hours is a bit of a bind. I lifted the board after 16 hours without any drama's but the recommended glue time is 72 hours.

I left the grip on underneath the handle so knuckles dont get worked on the deck of the board when carrying it.

Best fitted in the centre of the board to avoid catching your feet. Like anything you will get used to knowing how to avoid this issues, especially as the handle is moulded. I am yet to surf it, but based on its position on the board I don't really see a problem.

Because the handle is quite long there is plenty of room to move your hand to find the most comfortable balance point. I set it so there was plenty of slack. Next time I would set it so the handle is a bit tighter and sits flatter on the board as it always stretches over time.

Go surf it! RR $40

Andrew.A

PS: Not recommended for use in VICO as it wont set in under 18 degrees C !

Kind of looks like a good idea, I'm wondering how often you would either stub your toes or catch your foot on it, especially on a shorter board in the surf. Be good on flat water board where your not moving your feet around as much

Hi AA
After fitting the handle, would the sub sit on top of another sub without damaging it eg two boards tied on the roof of the car? Or would you need to put some sort of padding between the boards? Any difference with the flat compared with the contour models of handle? Yeah one's flat and the other's contoured .
As far as stacking one board on another goes?
I'll have no worries with the not setting below 18 degrees in Vicco, my board lives on the lounge room floor in between sups.

Thanks
RobDog

I NEED one of them for the 903 Ripper-IMO ALL (general application) SUBs should come with moulded handles-beggars belief that are ANY are made without handles-particularly for navigating shoreys and rocky shorelines or jumping off rocks.

My only concerns are:

1. Will it hold long term?
2. Will it give me the shhits under my feet?
3. What if I want to get it off-is it possible without trashing the deck?
4. Can I replace the provided 'strap' with a simple piece of Dacron rope?
5. How much do the 'plugs' stick up-will they damage the bottom when stacking boards?
6. Ummmmm anyhting I've forgotten?

I saw one that Robdog had made for his 10'6WideAA and I believe it was a far better option. It laid completely flat on the board and was really usefull. I rode his board with it on and had no issues at all.

Loco,

The method is simple you drill 2 holes and put in two fcs plugs and epoxy them in, then make a double loop of webbing and put a self tapper and large washer in each end to secure it. It lays flat on the board and you can walk right over it.

Easy to stack boards without damaging them. Ask robdog to send you a pic I sure he would!

Ben I saw guys in the states at huntington beach getting air on SUP doing exactly as you suggest.

I also know Dave Boyd Imperial Surfboards in OG has a foot strap / carry handle that works really well it integrates in to the deck pad.

Regards

Phill

I agree Phill.

Here's a link on how to do it yourself.. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=39934&SearchTerms=leach,plugs .. It's easy-peasy..

You can use it to carry the board.. or to just hold the paddle.. or both..

AA's stick on handle is a good idea for those not wanting to drill holes in their board.

This handle was great and no problem if under foot.
The main reasons I am considering the surfco handle is that they do not require any intrusion into the board itself. No chance of water leakage and I always had it in my mind that the two leash plugs may act as some sort of stress concentrator and weaken the board slightly making it more susceptible to breaking in two.

Yup, handles are not for everyone - I have been carrying my boards on my shoulders for years and really dont have a problem with it. I also would not be drilling any holes in my board - as it could affect warranty.

This handles is for those who want convenience and a quick, clean solution. At $40 its cheaper than a T-shirt and looks way better on!

1. Will it hold long term? Its 3m adhesive. If it sticks first go its there for good.
2. Will it give me the shhits under my feet? I would not put it on smaller high performance surfing boards. Bigger boards - for sure
3. What if I want to get it off-is it possible without trashing the deck? Not sure. Your going to grip over it anyway if you take it off.
4. Can I replace the provided 'strap' with a simple piece of Dacron rope? Mate, you can do whatever you want. Let me think - piece of inner tube? Matching ribbon to your board shorts
5. How much do the 'plugs' stick up-will they damage the bottom when stacking boards? Good point - a piece of foam or towel is required if stacking boards
6. Ummmmm anyhting I've forgotten? No Matt, but i am sure you will think of something!

Plenty of stock. Free postage for Breezers, yeah!!

Just another thought when positioning the handle,
As AA said make sure the fins are in when you are balancing it but also make sure you have the leash on too.
We demo'ed a board, loved it (and the in built recessed handle etc) but when we bought one and got it home we discoverd that once you put a leg rope on and wrap it around for carrying, the handle is not actually in the right balance spot!!!!!!!!!

Yeah yeah, I can hear you all saying how could you take out a SUP board without a legrope: Our local kayak shop has two boards they hire out/demo and kayakers are not into leashes. We carried them from the shop down to the beach, where our own boards were & put our legropes on for the test ride.

Actually, any work done on your board like fitting plugs, should be covered by the warranty of the installer. So it should not affect the board warranty, but you may just want to check with the supplier of your board.
