Going for a visit to Newcastle in the next couple of months. Any advice on intermediate friendly SUP spots. Are there any SUP comps or races on in the area over the next few months. Thanks in advance --Steve

Hi Steve there are plenty of good spots on Lake Macquarie for flat water or Black Smiths beach is ok for small waves, not sure what comps are on in Newcastle but there's normally something on in the Central Coast which is just a short drive check out sup central on face book

The city beaches can be a bit harder on SUPs due old school no change attitudes. If you can ignore the stink eye and hold your own, paddle out anywhere with caution.

Otherwise, the best city spot to SUP is probably Nobys Reef, which has always been paddle sport friendly. The other spot is around the stretch at the southern end of the Dixion Park car park where you will often see a few SUPs out.

One of the most fun spots to SUP in the region is the bit of reef between Crabs Creek and North Caves Beach. You get a few SUPs out there and it is a top wave.

Not much seems to be happening with the Newcastle SUP Club of late. It is a pity you missed Harry's Paddle, which was a great event. Maybe next year?

Enjoy!
