It's a shame that the first race (Lion Island run) clashes with the Aussie Titles. That'd be fun.

Hopefully we'll get good tail winds for the Palmy - Mona Vale runs.

Hi Sam,
Are these events purely SUP or is it an outrigger event with some SUP. Do we need to "join up" and if so how much? Can you give some idea of distances? Will there be a rescue vessel? I haven't done much "open water" stuff and would hate to run out of steam half way back from the island!!
Sorry about the twenty questions. I would have emailed but I suspect there might be others interested in the answers.
Thanks Mel

Cheers

Ok, Here's the low-down on the Sydney Paddle Races as supplied by one of the organisers, Grant Hughes: I hope I have got this correctly

- The SUP races are in conjunction with canoes/outriggers with the SUPs leaving approx 15mins ahead of the rest (last year they had about 6 SUP competitors)
- This Sunday (23rd August) is the only one that is not really a 'downwinder'.
- Race is approx 8km long and goes around Lion Island and back so pot luck on what the wind does (at this stage supposed to be westerly so a cross wind both directions)
- Cost is $20 plus either day insurance ($10) or membership to Paddling NSW ($50 & can be done online - bring receipt if you choose this option)
- Legropes and PFD's are compulsory
- Registration from 9am, first race starts 10am
- Starts from the Pittwater side of Palm Beach
Lets hope the wind is kind to paddlers.
