Just wondering if anyone wears sunnies whilst they SUP? I'm sick of the early morning glare so searched for some different styles and found a few different brands.

I use Sea Specs, but to be honest I have a big bonce and find that they are tight across the bridge of my nose and not wide enough for my massive melon. Saying that though, I have had 3 pairs up until now and as far as sunnies in the water go though, I rate them highly, I would come in after hours of surfing some days with a headache from the sun, no such thing now I wear sunnies.

If I were to play the miser though, the rubber bits that rest on your nose have come off on all 3 pairs.

I will wear sunnies most times I surf/SUP/kite.

Yep Sea Specs for me. Had a nice pair of $400 Oakleys that drowned somewhere around Pines. Sadly, I was in the water looking for my wife's lost prescription sunglasses. Double loser.

I'm hearing you PT Woody, I think Oakleys are great, but can't justify lossing a pair to the bottom of the ocean or local creek, I've watched to many people lose sunnies whilst on the water.

I found a company by the name of Ocean Sunglasses which look pretty good, they have a few different styles rather then just the one specific type. I've had friends that have owned sundogs, Oakley waterjackets and Sea specs before all with there different fores and againsts.

The Sea Specs and the millions of identical brands are all pretty good. They do fog up if you get hot and the water is cold. They have a three pairs for $100 deal. Never ever pay more than $40-50 for a pair. Some brands are $80 a pair and that's too expensive.

Oakley Waterjackets are discontinued. They're almost the same as the Sea Specs ... but not as good and they were hugely expensive. (The rubber bits are flimsy and break and you can't fold them up to put them away.)

The best are the Kurtis surf goggles ... but they're expensive at $200.They sit on pads away from your face so they're less likely to fog up and they are very easy to give a quick wipe to clear them.

No matter what kind you get you have to tie them onto something (a velcro neck leash or the zip puller on your wetsuit.) There is no such thing as sunglasses that will stay on your head in the water.

BTW I have bought just about every kind of surf sunglasses. I spend a lot of time on the water kiting in summer and had laser eye surgery 15 years ago so I'm very big on eye protection. I'm down to my last pair of Sea Specs and I'm starting to use the Kurtis more and more. You can have my Oakleys if you want em.

Sure. If you want. They've got a few scratches on them and the nose rubber is a little split. How do you want to arrange pick up?

Gorgo, I say you take them out to Fawkner Beacon and leave them there. First to get there wins the Oakleys.

I've been meaning to throw them out for years. It's hard to bring myself to throw out a $300 pair of sunglasses even though the newer, cheaper ones are much better.

I got two pairs of Ocean Sunglasses and they are both just as good as my Oakleys that I use when driving. The Australian pair are awesome for catching waves and I found the ventilation holes in the lenses of the Fuertventura are great for paddle training. Just thought I'd let you know.

Silverfish has a good comparison chart of various styles:

I have been using Seabreeze Sunnies (buy them on this site or in a store) for kiting. They are very good except you have to superglue the rubbery bits of the arms to the hard plastic bits or they come off when you get cleaned up or hit the water hard. usually my hat traps them anyway, but I have been thru a few pairs. The supplier has replaced one set for me but I lost another set yesterday. But they are good.
