As far as I've seen, this question has been posted a few times. (But feel free to ask questions).

However, there doesn't seem to have been a very satisfactory answer from anyone.

For me, I travel with short boards a little, and don't worry about the extra hassle of the bigger heavier SUP's.

However, JetStar's fine print (according to my notes) states;
A320's can carry up to 190cm, or about 75 inches, or 6'3
A330's can carry 277cm or 109 inches, or 9'1.

Quite often (domestically) you'll actually be on an A320 or the 6'3 limit.... so this doesn't really SUP's....

Not sure what Qantas's 737's can carry. 747's (longer haul planes) can lug around longer stuff I think....

Yes, check with your airline.... Also remember that your cover and padding adds extra inches, but length is usually measured along the rocker, so that takes away a couple of inches. I would hazard a guess that these stated max. dimensions are like "wall to wall" measurements, and if they top load your board, with the nose in one corner, I'm guessing they could actually squeeze in 10+ foot without too much problem....

Good luck, check with the airline. And post back what you have found out..... leave your feedback.....

But a 9'0 should be heaps for Indo anyway.... you'll have no wetsuits on, and will probably shed a couple of kg's on the trip, so a perfect time to grow down to a 9'0 !!

Board weight should not be a problem. Most airlines give you 30kg's on international, plus hand luggage. On indo trips, I highly recommend taking 1 day pack, and 1 board pack. Travel light !!

These are my "real" experiences and most of the time it has not been easy and mostly involved a lot of "discussion and sometimes tears" with the check in desk ....
Where possible Go Garuda ... sometimes your board will end up a bit shorter if they are having trouble loading; but Garuda normally fit most things in .... and I think still give a 15 kilo sports equipment bonus .. If you have a Jetsar flying through Darwin to the East Coast .. forget it they wont load anything around 7 foot and thats after an argument .... Im TOLD Perth can .. most of the time be a problem cause you cant guarantee a big plane (and its hard to sell a board once you have been bumped at check in ) To and from the East Coast direct, the long haul larger Jetstar planes will flt 9 foot one inch depends on who measures it .. I got a 9'8"with a big bag a few times ago and that was with the elastic tape measure I brought from the Check in guy (The tape measure cost Rp 250,000 .. but for that price I didnt get it weighed in) .. Thai Airlines will load anything as long as you pay for it ... If your flying anywhere on British Airlines as an offload from any Qantas flight say you have fishing gear ... BA wont load anything with "surf" attached to it and that includes paddles ... and its normally around 6' maximum so thats useless information and should go on the shortboard site .. Air Asia charges $50 a sector for sports equipment and will fly a 9'8" board ... But going to Bali has two offloads through KL ..
... A few of the places in Bali Rent SUPs In good condition a few C4s and newish Starboards and Jimmy Lewis .. and you can always buy one there for a very reasonable price but you have to decide how your gong to get it back or re sell up there.
Last year I had a try at getting a board to Manila via HK but after It arrived in Manila it couldn't be loaded on an internal flight even though I was promised they could take a 9 foot board .... most all the internals flights only loaded 7 foot maximum "if your lucky" ... roll on the 7/11 or the 6'6"...
