I hardly ever voice up about these kinds of things, and I know the whole thing has been flogged to death, but I have just one thing to say.

If there are a few grommets surfing in a area, find somewhere else. Simple.

Nothing annoys me more, whether you rip or are a newbie, to see a SUP sitting out beyond a pack of groms, and catching waves through them. It is dangerous.

I reckon if we see someone doing this, it really is up to us to let them know nicely how uncool it is.

Protects the sport as well as the groms.

Spot on PM , great comment .

So where are you meant to surf a SUP? Maybe up the other end of the beach bettween the wannabe pros or should I spend the rest of my days paddling my barge around the harbour?

I always wanted a SUP, but now I am wondering what the hell I have got myself into? Is it going to end up like board riding in the 60's where my SUP needs registering and I can only ride it in strictly designated areas for fear of being fined or sued? Wow, maybe just saying that is putting thoughts into the minds of those who want to abuse me just for giving SUPs a go?

Good point! Consideting the original statement reads that you should not SUP anywhere where there are "a few grommets" it really means all reasonable surfbreaks are out of bounds?

The problem with common sense is it isn't that common

Rager, I think your avatar says it all about some of the clowns that get on here

Pete, it's pretty obvious what you are saying and I have seen it as well (without leg ropes to boot!)

Admittedly that is something many people who ride all kinds of craft lack. What worries me is that some of these same idiots will relly on strict interpretation of threads like this to cause SUPs grief. You know who I mean; the kind of tool who will want to start a fight just because there were a couple of kids nearby when there was no danger at all.

Pete,

I believe that what you said applies to all surf craft, longboards, goatboats, sups and shortboards.

Its not the craft its the attitude of the person using the craft. At OG I have seen a 12ft log hit a young kid and again several stiches, guy on a short board same out come.

Be aware of your surroundings and make allowances especially for groms.
There is always another break do a little exploring you never know that secret spot might be just up the beach!

Exactyl what I mean.I read a thread about the same topic a few months ago and there was one a few weeks/months before that.I stand by my first comment not meaning that childrens safety should be compromised but rather that we've heard it all before.

But have you ever heard The Cosmic Psychos or Feedtime on vinyl pumping across a Brittish amp and Aussie speakers. Now I am talking real sacred territory!

(Yes I got it; thanks for the heads up!)

What if Groms paddle out on Sups?

Can Groms sup with other surf Groms?

The hole sup world is getting way to confusing

Re-read what Pete has said-it comes down to common sense-there is SO much space out there on the beaches and most of the offending SUP riders wouldn't be prejudiced by just moving down to another bank if there are a bunch of groms out-think about it, if there are groms out there, it's a grom wave not suitable for (what is often-but yes, not always) an overweight middle aged fella' on a massive craft and no idea!
