Okay who wants to call MSAC and see if we can scam a similar arrangement? I imagine Mark Bradtke has some contacts.

That's Right . . . We have finally been given approval to rent out the wave pool at WEM!
In order to gain access to the Mall Wave Pool, our first session - on Sunday, February 14th - has to be by invite only.
If you personally received an email from me - you are invited.

Not to worry though - we have already booked a second session for Sunday, April 11.
Cost will be $5. per person. Check back here for the exact time as the event draws closer.

Here is a photo from our "test" paddle a few months ago.

Fantastic idea. What would it take to get the thumbs up from MSAC? Anybody have any contacts.
Looks like fun!

Ok Pt Woody your wish is my command.

Anything else that you would like while I'm there?

Ok I put a call in and they have agreed to your idea.

Seriously I heard just yesterday that MSAC have well advanced plans to build a $2 000000 wave pool along side the main pool.

Not sure if they will allow SUP's in there but it will be very interesting to see if they go through with the project.

Any more ideas just forward them on.

Cheers

Cheers Hoagie, I'll let you know if I think of anything.

Seriously, if you took a SUP into the current MSAC wave pool, you'd probably end up kicking it into the kiosk. Not exactly a long wave. For those non-Melbournites, it would be about half the size of the Edmonton pool in the photo above.

I took what will most likely be my final outdoor paddle for the season yesterday.
Air temp was -11 Celsius and the water temp was below 0.

It was a really fun paddle - but the ice flows are getting really thick - up to a foot of solid ice. I can no longer smash through them and spent a lot of time slaloming around them looking for a way through to open water. The other limiting factor is the weight of the board - after a 45 minute paddle it ended up being about 50 lbs from all of the ice that formed on the deck.

Just figured I would share the stoke!
