Quite interesting to note how little dinting has resulted, apart from the foot area.
Why I say this is because when you push hard on the board it feels spongy, & you would expect dints to be left everywhere. But the LS EPS, epoxy & 1 6oz bottom & 2 6oz top obviously has a "memory effect" .....to a point.

The only area that needs to be re assesed, 2 foot dints that are not getting any deeper. (I know when I'm in the right paddling spot though)

Rails are dirty only, no dints or splits...very surprising for such minimal glass

Dirty rails clean up with a wipe of "Jiff"

4th hard hit on the reef at high speed the tail creased.
2 holes are a repair to reset the box. This only loosened last week it survived reef hits but not blowing away, A thing to be aware of when puting down a light board on a windy day.

No wonder I hit the bottom so often....hows that Mother F*cker of a fin...11"

Still looks like a C**t of a board

Mid rail.....very full......(It will never hang in a steep face)

No dints on the bottom.

Tail rail...no dints or splits, a common damage area, just the crease repair.

80mm split rail resulting from the board blowing away 20 meters & hitting the ground (possibly loosened the box at this time also)

Dean.. Remind me not to stand downwind of you on a windy day when you put your board down..

You may need to carry a small bag of sand down to the beach on those windy days so you can attach your board to it..

It's not just lightweight boards. I seem to remember a Glide and an 11'6" blowing through the air like autumn leaves just a few weeks ago, and 12' PSH pretending to be a boogie board a the end of a leash.

Oliver....how heavy is your "light weight Stonker".... you know the one thats Brittle & you have to be carefull not to knock it against anything?
How did it end up split on the operating table?

I'm not exactly sure - I believe it's about 11kg it measures 10'6 x 30' x 4'.

Two weeks ago there was a deep hole in the deck that pushed the wood at least 2cm into the foam, like it hit a rock - don't really know what happened. I just looked down and saw it when paddling into shore.

The week after it hit DJ's Mana in the whitewash and came off second best. I lost 10cm x 10cm of glass off the bottom near the nose which just came away. No dent just a layer of glass came off. Some months ago there was a crack in the rails, which caused some of the wood to discolor, I mistakingly decided to repair myself. Other than that I've had no damage in a year of use.

After taking it to OKE for two repairs, including rerepairing the one I stuffed up, and $290 later the board now looks like new.

Ok Olie,
All info I post on this forum is accurate, I EXPECT others to be accurate also, your "not exactly sure" hey....post the REAL WEIGHT of your board.

I will give you a chance to redeem your self, maybe you can say your scales were wrong, maybe OKE were nice & filled it with helium when it was repaired?

Your boards EPS grade of foam is "M" or "VH" I used to hot wire it for Alex, I showed him how to make SUB's with timber veneer's etc in the first place, I was the one that recomended he get into SUB's.
Like most in the manufacturing/retail game, the last thing they want is boards falling apart, and warranty claims, so they make them solid...very solid, but alas.....frigin heavy!
The 8'2" x 31" board I have just made my Mate Glenn weighs 6.5(without a fin), is half the weight of his Stonker 9' 6" x 30' at 14kg
Yes Glenns board is much smaller, but the issue here is light weight small SUB's,& surfability.
So an 11kg 10'6"x 30" Stonker...I dont think so Olie.....dream on buddy.

Just be carefull who you take the P1ss out of Olie
Cheers
Dean (THE BUSH MECHANIC HOBBY BUILDER) LOL

Ps... Before anyone arcs up & has a go at me for because I'm sayin my boards are better & all the others are crap. A few months ago I took my first short SUB's to all the SUB manufactures in Torquay & gave them a ride/look, & suggested they explore this facet of the sport.

Dean I've felt Olivers board and I'd be surprised if it's any heavier than about 11kgs.. My big Naish was about 12-13kgs and I'm pretty sure it was lighter.

It is hard to get accurate measurements these days.. I've checked my own weight at different scales around the hospital and there's often one or two kgs difference.

There's no doubt that your boards feel half the weight of most others.. Both yours and Surf shapes are extremely light compared to most mass produced boards.

I think this whole weight thing is only a big deal for some people..Those who want to push their board around in the waves will be the ones most concerned.. IMO

Hey Dean,
How much weight differrence in an 8ft board do you reckon there would be using high density eps as opposed to low density?
I've been using high density with 1 layer of 6oz on the bottom and 2 layers of 6oz on the top and struggling to get the weight below 7.5kg with fins etc. I'm guessing it's got something to do with my glassing tecnique?

Heat from your feet softens the wax?
We use a very hi tech additive its caled castor sugar....great grip for the short board moves....but not recomended if you tend to land face first on your board...it will take a bit of bark off LOL

I don't have scales that can measure it accurately, and am only guessing, even if the board does weigh 14kg or 15kg it's still brittle.

I was taking the p1ss out of Hilly (our resident self appointed expert) by repeating what he called you - he gave you the title hobby bush mechanic not me:

I'll way my 8'0 Naish when i get a chance but at a guess i would say 6-7kg max with fins and grip is that why Naish is leading the way?

yay... another debate about board weight...

if everyone adds their opinion does that make it a mass-debate.

I'd expect Naish would be the ones to produce a high quality & light SUB first.
I would expect JP will be right onto it with their first models.

Starboard are already on the right track but just need some better marketing IMO.

Paul, are you alone again with that 8'0" Naish? Keep the cover on it, you don't want to mark it!
