I've read a lot on this forum about people going for shorter boards and often use the weight of the paddler as a factor in determining length of board. How much of a factor does the height of the paddler make? Do shorter people find smaller boards easier due to having a lower center of balance? I'd be interested to know the height of you all paddling boards under 10 foot to see if there is a bit of a pattern that develops.
Cheers.

183 (6ft) and 105kg riding a 9'6

Height is a significant factor due to the change in the centre of gravity, patience and time are the required fixes to overcome the problem!

6'1", 92kgs, 9'6".

Find it so unstable compared to my 11'6" but a heap more fun!

5'8" 83 kg, been riding SUPs for 8 weeks now on a 9'3 x 23 3/8 PSH ripper. Still fall off occassionally in choppy/bumpy conditions but pretty stable otherwise.

I reckon height would have to make a fair difference.

5'11" 82 kg, been riding SUPs for 16 months now on a 9'3" x 28 3/8" PSH Ripper. Still fall off often in choppy/bumpy conditions but pretty stable otherwise.

Getting a DC 8'8" next week.

A higher centre of gravity is definitely a factor when it comes to balance. Put it this way - Tommy Carroll rips.

I'm 95 kgs and 4'9" when i'm kneeling (that is 20" less than standing).

I do lots of kneeling on the way out - I can get almost as much drive off the paddle and its way more stable in the whitewater and chop.

I'm not fussed, whether its SUP or KDP (kneel down paddle), its all good.

I hope that board is 28 3/8 - 23 3/8 is bloody narrow-you drop it on its rails?

ha ha, my bad, yes 28 3/8. And after Casso's comments I better change that to fall off often in choppy stuff

If you are tall , it helps to keep your weight underside bend your knees a little and drop your centre. Most of us are top heavy so if you concentrate on a spot just below your navel your balnce will improve greatly.
