Surfing has been chosen as an olympic sport for 2020. Now I wonder what the categories will be. Who gets left out? Shortboards, long boards, Sup, Down winders,(better start training DJ} Goat boats, skis, Boogie boards, kites, wind surfers, knee boarders.
Maybe all will be welcome.

Ha.. I don't think they will let geriatrics compete..

Let's hope they have a wave machine that pumps out perfect double overhead barrels..

I predict that Henry from Merimbula will be the first surfing athlete to be banned for drug infractions!

That come out of the water after they've been radio activated, other things may shrink as well.

Radioactive waste doesn't make organs shrink, it's quite the opposite. Didn't you ever see the Toxic Avenger?

No haven't seen that one, but we do have a Monster from the Deep at one of our local breaks that dresses in a lime green steamer!!!

I'm pretty sure the Olympics won't be anything like what you describes above which sounds more like an average hectic day of flotsam and jetsam out at Box Head.

Now you've got me thinking, sups vs shortboards ,down winders vs skis, goat boats vs everybody. All the carnage would make great TV and much more fun than synchronised swimming.

Not so sure your out of the running Tardy, gold will be likely won by a 48 year old man. Mr Kelly slater. I reckon he is already starting to plan it. Seeing tom carroll at avalon suping and surfing in that last monster swell at avalon I wonder if he will come back at 58 to compete he is still fit enough.
Laughs, cant believe he can still surf like that at 54 years old its just ridiculous.

That drop knee canoe paddling thing just looks so wrong, not sure if the Aussie bloke fell overboard but he was dead last in the heat by a long way, in all my years of watersport I've never seen anyone doing it other than in the Olympics, surely ditch that and replace it with the 12'6" category SUP would make sense.

that bloke is 49 years old , and has won Olympic medals , I think its his fifth games. Our young stand up paddlers should give it a crack I reckon. Clean up at the 2020 games. A lot of similarities to sup.

The paddle technique looks almost the same, if the bloke is 49 (and that's great BTW, there's hope for me yet!) that though really shows their is absolutely no young blood in that sport, surely a no brainer to get SUP in at some point whether its straight sprints or a marathon course or Naish air series, or all three.

I remember Trevor giving it a go in Adelaide a couple years back when we were over there. He fell in. We all laughed. Then it got not so funny when they tried to start the next race with Trevor stuck in the middle of the course and his borrowed canoe drifting away.
