Howdy all
Long time hanger first time poster. Love the forum especially all the juicy board pics.
With the debate raging over the merits of home grown, popouts or customs I thought I might wey into the discussion with some pics of my new board. Have been on an Uberfish for the last 12 months and a Bonga befor that but felt the need to drop in lenth somewhat and wanted something that was more in tune with the short boards I ride. Love to be able to make my own but every time I've gone for the resin and glass in the last 35 years its always ended with a visit from the CFA.
The new stick is 8.8 long, 29 3/4 wide and 4 3/4 thick. It was designed and shaped by Simon Forward of 4D surfboards in Ocean Grove Vicco and without to much shameless plugging I could not be happier with price quality and performance. Its glassed in epoxy and is so ridiculously lite its scary. Somewhere around the 5 kilo mark I would suspect. Bare in mind the photos were taken with the missuses mobile phone and I am new to this posting caper, so here goes

The new shooter next to the much maligned Uberfish

Looking a lot like a shortboard

Here comes the rocker shots, pay no attention to the chin farmer

Will try to get some shots of the board gripped and finned if I can prize the mobie away from the good lady wife.

Thanks DJ
Had two surfs on it last weekend and it rearranged my headspace. First surf in sloppy Easterly peaks was marred by some grip dramas but the second was a cracker. Surfs like my 5.8 fishes!! FUN

Often down your way will keep an eye out to have a look at the board,

Hey Sparx,
Yeh board looks pretty sweet, doesn't look 4 3/4" thick from the pics though. Looks like it's gunna be much nicer ride than the Uberfish and anything has got to be better than the old Bonga! 5kg sounds pretty light? Is that a bit of a pick it up and have a guess sorta weight?

Fordy has been shaping for yonks but is reasonably new to the Stand Up caper. I think this would be about number 3. He shaped himself a really smooth looking mal style SUP that caught my attention. Picked it up and couldnt believe the weight differnce between it and my Uberfish. That got the cogs turning! Happy to catch up in the surf any time Camo, might even toddle off down the coast aways today and see wether I can find a protected corner or even a flat water paddle. Might at least be able to get the groms wet.

Yeah were talking guesstimate. Should take it round to the outlaws and throw it on the bathroom scales. My only point of reference with regards weight is the Uberfish, Fordys SUP and one of LSDs which I handled on the beach at Roadknight a couple of weeks ago. Way lighter than the first and on par with the others. As far as the 4 3/4 thickness, thats what we agreed on when Fordy was working on the CAD program and thats what it says on the tail of the board. Your right though. I'm looking at it sitting on the deck out front at the mo and it just looks like one of my shorties.

I'm just a shade under 6ft and weigh around 93 kilos carrying my winter pelt. Obviously the 8.8 lacks the glide of the Uberfish when paddling for waves, but I have found it to be stable and it floats me no drama. It cost 1200 which I reckon is bloody brilliant considering I was going to send that much and more over the border for a new shooter.

Running with the MR TFX up front and the poly M.7s up back. Not much action over your side today? Looking dismal here but I would imagine the East coast would have a touch more swell.

Had a bit of a splash down at Roady this arvo and the new shooter went as well as could be expected in 2 ft sideshore slop. Might of got there a touch late! Having said that LSD and the rest of the Snow Patrol were on hand making it look deceptively easy. Props to the man. He knows what works in the waves he surfs.

Hey Sparks,

Welcome to the Breeze, sounds like there will be a few sups being made around Grove shortly. Boyd also is cranking out some smoking shapes.

I think I saw you going out just as we were leaving.

Yep
That was me. Late as usual! Anything happening over your way this morning? To West for Back Beach to small for Frontos, thinking there might be a micro ripple at Grove? Is Boydy cranking out epoxies or still running with poly?
