I believe they may do some more SUP stuff on Sunday afternoon once the SHQ Race to the Cerberus is finished. So a big weekend in Melbourne coming up.

There are races for both.
However there will be roaming judges looking out for creativity on the water.
So dudes that want to attempt freestyle moves with a SUP and kite are more than welcome.
The format in between races will be like Mambo, we want people out riding as part of st kilda fest and showing the 500,000 people there that SUP and Kite are the two coolest sports on the water.
Apart from that, its a good excuse for a get together and for kiters and suppers of all descriptions to have fun on the water and a few laughs on the sand as well.

So you're saying parking could be a challenge.

Should be an awesome day! Cannot wait!

Yes Paul, you should be able to park ok on the Saturday but they'll be a few road closures on Sunday. It will be impossible to park on Pier Road on the Sunday as I believe you will need a special parking permit from the council for St Kilda Festival event related vehicles only.

yes parking will be a challenge on the day. The best thing to do is park at St kilda west beach or portobello and paddle around to the comp area.
This will give you a nice warm up before the event.
So far as prizes we have:
1> trip to Safari Lodge Fiji
2> trip to far north QLD
3> Coreban paddles and other gear
4> Rash tops
5> Store vouchers for Katani, Kite Power, Kite Republic

7> Quicksilver wetsuit
8> Island Inflatable Pump
9> Kahuna long board

So there's a 3km sprint at noon then another sprint of undetermined distance at 2pm, then a 3km downwind race at 4pm. At that time of day with the prevailing winds at StKilda, the most likely race course would have to be a start from half way out to Fawkner Beacon in order for it to be downwind race back to StKilda Beach.

Hey Woody,

Drag out your 12'6, like the Vicco Titles might turn into a 3km BOP style buoy race.

We have learned to come prepared as things often change!

If I'm parking a couple km's up the road and paddling to the comp site, I might need to bring some bungee cord to tow 4 boards.

Sounds like a good day! You might still be able to get a park on the road there if you're there early
at least thats how it used to be but I haven't been for a couple years.

I remember doing a kitesurf demo for Coca Cola at St Kida fest in the year 2000! 2 line kites, flippin over
the pontoon and high fivin' people standing on the pier. I think the only guy still kiting today is Felix.

We will park where we start our down-winders from.. Opp the end of the breakwater and near the corner of Langridge St.. Show with a red cross.. Parking on the non water (north side ) side of the main Rd ( Beaconsfield Parade) is free for four hours.. The paddle across will only take about ten minutes.. shown with the yellow lines.. and the event will be at one or both of those green crosses.

SHQ have made a decision to have a Masters Division in their event, We would assume that the St Kilda Festival SUP Event will now do the same and open the event to all age groups.
