Anyone had a shoulder injury which they've had to strap and still been able to paddle?
I have to wait to get an ultrasound done next week but the GP thinks that I may have a small tear in the rotator cuff (happened at work yesterday). I pretty much have lost movement at about 85 degrees from the side and at about 50 degrees to the front. If I put pressure on the shoulder I can continue with the movement to get full range - wich means some sort of strapping on the shoulder may help.
Either way I have a SUP trip to Bali planned and paid for, for the 9th Feb so a bit of ibuprofen and some strapping tape may come in handy for then.

turk if you hadnt paid for a trip i would tell you to leave it,i never listened to dr or rehab and now pay more. go to your dr get him to squirt you with some cortisone and you will limp into that surgery and will be leaping out when you leave. if you have a tear it will truly be rooted after your trip to indo. strapping wont work on a shoulder when you need full movement, hence you dont see swimmers with tape or strap. hope that helps from one busted up human, good luck mate.

Hey Turkish, I have dislocated my shoulder twice in 2 months. It goes back easy so pops out easy as well. Paddling definitely helped with my ability to comeback and I can paddle two weeks after it popping it if I strap it and only go when it is 2-3', high tide. Every injury is different so you need advise specific to your injury.

For me it is all about the forces involved. If it is over 4' and sucking on a bank the chances are the forces are strong enough to pop my shoulder no matter what I do to avoid it. So I stick to my 3'ers for now! Good luck!
