I was lucky enough to be in a spot on the weekend that produced a wickedly long grinding 2 foot sand point break (no photos sorry, forgot the camera) ...Unfortunately there was a strong 30 odd knot offshore wind blowing.....I realy struggled to get any forward motion when paddling for waves and reverted back to my trusty Mal. Are there any tricks I may have used in this instance?

Very late takeoffs can work if you can handle the inertia of the board getting hit by a wave.

Kneeling and paddling then leaping to your feet can work. It feels like a bit of a circus trick not tripping over or dropping the paddle.

Leaving the paddle in the car and prone paddling works fine.

Having a shortboard in the car ...
