Love the Kialoa Methane but a couple of weeks ago my brother broke mine clean in half paddling for a wave. A week later the Feeze snapped his also clean in two, same way. Can anyone recommend a good paddle that is a little stronger than the methane? At close to $600 for a paddle I am prepared to deal with a little extra weight if it is stronger. Thanks.

I can make you one that wont break! Weight about 500gms...I think from memory...havent made one for years they last well. The kids use them as light sabres as they pass in the surf

I just ordered some more NZ Carbon shaft that is very strong, paddles can be made indestructable for very minor weight gain.
The board & I landed on that busted one in the bells shorie yesterday

just a question, how are you guy's breaking paddles? are you landing on them, are they getting smashed by the board?i have the kialoa paddles, tried many others and imo none are as good

Robdog try one of Woogie's Kia Kaha's. The shaft is is a lot smaller in diameter than the kialoas and it is tapered from about half way. The wall thickness appears to be greater than most but because of the smaller diameter the weight isn't an issue.Correct me if I'm wrong Woogie.
I weigh 85 kegs and give it a workout most days. Still as good as the day I got it.
(12 months ish. Jeez i hope I haven't put the mocka on myself then.)

I have tried out Revvin Kevins Kia Kaha and it is a great paddle especially for doing paddle turns. Feels stiffer that the methane.

I have also tried one of the quickblades Session has and it was awesome.

I still have the methane an have given it a serious work out without any issues.

You would think it would break dragging my wide a$$ into waves for about 6 months lol.

I love the paddle woogie made for me (Kia Kaha) and have given it a work out in all conditions. I am 93kg.

Having said that I think Kialoa has an excellent rep in replacing shafts with out any fus. They stand behind their product.

I met and surfed with Rod Hocker(surfshapes) from Coffs Harbour a couple of weeks ago.The bloke really knows his stuff.He had various size paddles with him and I think he would be the man to talk to.Brooko has one of his paddles, maybe talk to him?

I bought a C4 9" Blade full carbon about 3 years ago as at that time there really was no other options. There was no real other choice, that I knew of anyway. It feels like that long ago that 'back in the day' we were surfing the Alley with 1 or 2 other SUPS max sharing info and tips you heard from guys that had been to Hawaii. It's not like that anymore, in any way! Mick Dibetta and Jamie Mitchell were even out there helping people to get started. (then the yellow boards come and the vibe changed.......)

It's amazing how much more resources there are now with the amount of choice you have from boards to leashes to grips etc etc. My C4 Pohaku dealt with my raw beginnings all the way up to now in and around the surf full time. It has a few scratches but has never once looked like failing me. I chuck it in the car, it bounces off the road, stick it in the sand, even let my missus use it(?)

For my money if I snapped it, I would buy the same again. I have tried most brands with mates etc. The blade settles well under pressure, it's lighter than any I have tried, the shaft is thick enough to fill your hand, the oval shape is comfortable. Most other paddles just don't feel 'right' to me. I guess I got lucky first time around.

I like it so much I just bought an Outrigger paddle from them as well.

I broke my Kialoa 3 weeks ago - it's cracked half way around in the middle of the shaft. Fell on to the paddle - blade was in the water, handle was on the nose of the board. Very simple and stupid fall and was really surprised it broke.

Have tried to fix it by glassing but it doesn't seem to have worked - so I am still without a paddle. Have recently bought a new windsurfing board so can't afford a new one - SUPing is rubbish without a paddle!!!!

Can Kialoa replace the shaft?
