I live in Auckland- and have done a day sup tour up north near the bay is islands.
What kind of supping are you wanting to do? Surf, touring, general?

supbro tours do a cool
tour of the poor knights islands up north but not cheap.
You could paddle around mission bay in Auckland and hire a sup around there (maybe fergs), or takapuna beach

To add....that's for around Kerikeri/Bay of Islands. In Auckland the best spot IMHO is on Waiheke......but I would say that. I think you can only hire inflatys out there tho.

Ocean Culture in Takapuna (Auckland) are great to deal with, and the paddling around Takapuna is pretty good if you like harbour paddling. Supshed in Orewa (north Auckland) also hires a range of sups, and the beach there can be fun for a first time surf if there is something around (generally small).
Supcentre in Newmarket hires as well, although they are not close to the water. There are probably a few other options I haven't mentioned, but should come up on google.
Have a good trip!
