Jonathan and I had some fun surfing yesterday on small waves in western port bay.. We had the place to ourselves from 8.30 till about 12.30 when a long boarder paddled out just as we were leaving.

JC was on his 10'3" Starboard and I was on my 10'6".5 Naish.. Lots of fun..

Nice clip DJ. That looks like a HEAP of fun. I love the look of the 10'6".5 Naish. If/when you have the time or inclination, would love to hear your thoughts on it as a surfing SUP, especially for someone like me who tends to scrounge around the quieter beachbreaks. It looks like a great point-break or mellow reef board - or maybe a great allrounder? I asked our local store if they'd be getting any of those boards in and they said - "we got one and it went the same day." I'm not surprised.
Cheers.

DJ, I just love how you handle that GoPro! Some of the angles you achieve are incredible. Sweet long rolling runners there too. Looks fun!

That was a really fun morning, very mellow, and sometimes very shallow!

DJ's board was really staying on those waves well, even not paddling when he had the camera the wider tail kept him motoring.

Looks like the Starboard was going really well too. At first i thought it might've been an Easter theme... "surfing with JC" and all that. But that's another JC. And he doesn't need a board, apparently.
Anyway, good on ya guys ... I think I'd rather a surf like that with one mate than crowded overhead perfection. And I like starboards but that new nalu has piqued my interest. There was a bit of fanfare on here when it first came out and the usual short Naish official promo video (no water footage, unfortunately) so clips like this are GOLD.

G'day Greenie, that board is the 10'3 x 28.5 Gun. Would have shown you how it surfs except this big guy with his paddle in the air kept dropping in and going straight
Great all round board, fast on flat water, awesome in bigger waves and still fun in little stuff like the waves in the video. You can see that I had to paddle more than DJ to stay on those little guys but they were really gutless, surprises me how much fun it is in small stuff, the tail is pretty fine.

Wetsuit/boardies, well maybe we both went a bit extreme! I was too hot but when we started it was pissing rain and it's the end of April FFS DJ

Thanks guys.. It was a fun day and sharing small mushy waves with friends is one of the best things about sup.. I'm looking forward to trying that camera on the paddle thing on some better waves when I can get some carving turns in.. The board rocks.. After using the big 11'6" and 11'4" Nalu boards in the surf I would only rate them as about a 3-4 out of 10 for surfing performance because I had such a hard time turning them.. (I'm sure better surfers don't have my problem.. I've seen guys rip on the 11'4").. and jumping on the 10' Mana that surfing performance figure jumped up to about 6-7 out of 10 and I was loving the Mana because I could finally turn with it with ease.. With my new 10'6".5 I would say that surfing performance figure has jumped up to about 8-9 out of 10.. It might not be quite as loose as the Mana on a wave but it is much faster and carries its speed through the turns so much better.. My first surf on it was glassy and head high waves and my sup surfing ability increased so much on this board.. The fine rails seem to hold onto the wave much better than the Mana did letting me run across steep fast sections that if I was on the Mana I would have had to straighten up and get out of there.. I still love my Mana but I'm loving my new 10'6".5 Nalu even more.. I don't have much of a surfing background and never been a short boarder so this is all just from my perspective.. I think the Mana is a better beginner board because it's so stable and so forgiving.. You never seems to ever nose dive or catch a rail and I have with my new 10'6" but I'm sure I'll get used to it and it has just the right amount of stability at 29'1/2" wide and I hope it will allow me to surf a wave like I used to be able to in my windsurfing days.. Demo one if you can.. It would be a great all round board for most people.. I tried it that day for the first time without the side fins but I will be putting them back on.

Sorry I ment the 2012 10'3 x 28.5. Is there any difference?
Was thinking of getting the 10'3 Gun but decided on the 9'6 x 27 Gun.
Needed it for big waves but wanted a small volumed board. The 9'6 is only 117L.
Having not riden either one of them I went for the smaller gun. Best choice ever
Still keen to give a 10'3 a go

I was out in Western Port that same arvo and the sun came out... and in the 3/2 O'Neill it was too hot. Had to jump in to cool down!!

Great video!

Has anyone had any thoughts on the Trigger Bros boards - every second whacker surfing a SUP at Pines seems to have one...
