Does anyone know which races will be downwind (assuming they get wind on the day) and which are course races? Might try to make it down for 1 or 2 of the downwinders.

Ali. Hope this helps:

Rd1- 17th September: Rocks to Reef Dee Why - morning course race - about 6 to 8km (should be fun as you can get nice bumps on all legs).

Rd2 - 8th October: Lion Island Challenge - morning course race (but may change to downwinder if it is southerly). Distance to TBC but likely shorter than skis.

Rd3 - 29th October: Bondi to Watsons Bay - downwind, but with bounce off the cliffs - about 13km

Rd4 - 12th November: Narrabeen Downwind - classic afternoon downwinder

Rd5 - 26th November: King of the Harbour - downwind if NE (likely) but maybe alternate course race if southerly). Last year looked pretty good - check vid on website.

Rd6 - 17th December: 20 Beaches Classic - downwind (the 2009 and 2010 race videos are on the site. Both pretty light winds but at that time of the year it can be epic).

The distances haven't been confirmed as we looking to shorten some of the courses such that the winning times are around 1 hour.

I have done all these races on skis. The last 4 have the potential to be incredible DW'ers - but then you are at the mercy of conditions. If it is looking ugly we have alternative courses we can run and, of course, we will always turn the race around so you don't have a head wind.

There is a series pointscore. You need to do 3 out of 6 races and you must include the 20 Beaches.

We are finalising sponsorship and prizes. Will let you know shortly.

Hopefully, a few of the Queenslanders will come and have a crack.

Hey Tomo
There will be 2 classes for the guys. 12'6 and over 12'6 (open). For the girls it is open to whatever they can get their hands on.
We are trying to keep it simple as most competitors will probably change boards throughout the series which would make the pointscore impossible to manage.
For the guys, if you are in the 12'6 class you also get points towards the open class. So it is possible to win both the open and the 12'6 class pointscores but I think that is unlikely as the 20 Beaches must be included in your series pointscore...and it double points....and there are some "very" good racers planning to do this race
Personally, if I had to stick to one board for the whole series, it would probably be a 14. Having said that, they are really good prizes for winning the 12'6 pointscore and 20 Beaches...
