Todays was our second club comp for the year with the toughest conditions yet we were faced with about 1meter of dead east swell with an super strong onshore wind! Paddling into the wind was so hard almost everyone had to lay down paddling back out and staying upright out the back was super tough and then we had to surf heats. The standard of surfing was really high with most heats could had been finals. On my way to palmy i had a bit of a premonition as driving there i was amping up with my precomp music totaly focus on the comp ahead then as i drive into palmy what catches my eye a cafe sign THE GREEDY GOAT!!!!! Ive just gone no not goatman hes not gunna win today is he?
Well anyway he did he ripped it up on his newy and even did the move of the event in the final a full blown paddle out take off then rip it all the way to the sand how do you beat that?
So thanks to all the key players you guys no who you are thanks guys was another epic event well done
Hopefully some vid or pics to follow????

Yesterday was about as hard as SUP can get. With chop equalling the size of the average wave, there was real skill in wave selection that made the difference. But everyone put on an amazing display.

And in a super tight final with close scores and lots of waves ridden by each competitor, the goat man pulls out the move of the event. He was paddling out as the wave peaked up, it had basically broken in front of him when when smacks the lips with a huge reo right in the pocket and rides away like he had been on the wave the whole time. Not only was it an epic take off, but it would have been the highest scoring single move in the event as a standard reo.

All up a really great event with the conditions, I know we say this every event, but the level of riding was amazing, there was no easy heats, and wave counts were all very high.

Our race circuit again pushed our competitors, especially after battling trying conditions in the waves. Steve and the Andy's set an amazing pace, but it was Steve who proved to be un-catchable (seriously the guy never stops paddling). Well done all

A very big welcome to all the new comers too, great to see the stoke of the event spreading.

A huge thanks to all competitors for your efforts with judging, massive props to Dan and Simon head judges, Scotty on the awesome BBQ and Hot Dogs with refreshments plus, Casso for his usual awesome efforts (such as the new SPSC tent and Banner) and everyone who attended, the energy was great, and it was a fantastic day.

Hope to see you all and more at the next event on December 12th at Long reef, I've just sent off the order for the conditions to huey, and hopefully it doesn't get lost in the mail this time.

Regards,

JB

Just echoing everyone else's sentiments, thanks everyone for a great day.

Good to see new faces at every comp, thanks to all the new comers who came from as far as Bondi and Ulladulla! Sorry we couldn't turn on the surf a bit better for you...

Goaty's reo take off was, as said, awesome. Incredibly he seems to be transferring the skill set that made him the best wave ski rider of all time ( no exageration, even if he is a mate) seamlessly over to a SUP - just watch out when he starts pulling multiple airs on every wave.

Thanks to JB the contest director and his great summary speeches at the preso ( results in reverse order too!), and motivational pre contest debriefs. Casso thanks for being Casso.

And thanks to Dan the head judge. Without his efforts in that position I don't think I'd be able to get through the day

well done everyone in those howling conditions. I got up at 5 (even had an early night) and took one look at the forecast and went into the office instead. Not that I would have made much of a difference anyway........

any shots from the day ? who's going to be hitting the Fenn this saturday ? conditions are not looking ideal, but if that south westerly turns a little south it will be fun....

I was too sad about my dismal attempt at competitive surfing to bother getting my camera out of the car. Sorry.

I'll be at the Fenn tomorrow - 12'6" class. Should be OK in the westerly - at least it will be smooth, close to shore.

All class

John Christensen(goatman)

John's Vert, paddle over to reo takeoff, in the final.

Top score in my book, but not the criteria score book on the day!!!

This is only part of what stands this sport apart from others!!!
