Hi everyone , i was talking to a friend the other day swapping water war wound stories , when i realized that i haven't heard many SUP horror injury stories yet( only cause I'm new to the sport) and i'm sure there must be heaps , i dont know why i love these ? probably the shock factor when you go Wooooh
.now i am sure some of you don't want to know and might be a bit squeamish so please click your back button now as the following might be

go on I'm waiting for you to click the back button

last chance !

You know how they start
" did ya hear the one about ?"
ok i will start
a friend of a friend heard a story about this SUP guy somewhere whilst surfing some pretty heavy waves was was dropping down the face of some beast wave when he bottom turns the wave closes out and the lip crashes beside him ( freaky timing stuff ) just as he is swapping the paddle to his IN side the lip pushes down on the paddle blade forcing the top of the handle up and out of his hand , at this point the T part of the handle catches on the inside of his mouth YES mouth and rips his cheek ofF ! Wooooh.

Mucking around at Playgrounds when I let the board get in between me and the wave. It hit my chest and I started coughing blood. It was only knee high

Ahhh thats better thanks greenroom,
and thanks for the encouragement 62mac ,
i think this all started eons ago with the tracks surf mag or one of those , they would have a section called "gash of the week" (sounds like tracks) usually a gorey photo of some near death fin slash with a description on how it happened . i haven,t bought mags for years so they may still do it .
and greenroom i have been caught between my board and on coming white wash as well , i will try and do that only once good way to knock myself out .
come on more stories ............

O.K here's one..... guy down the road from me takes up SUP with the 11'6" Naish supertanker - takes it straight out to the buisiest pointbreak - He will only go paddling there, even after being politely requested to go somewhere else by other SUP riders & screamed at by the prone surfers. Dude has the attitude that no-one can tell him what to do in the ocean regardless of his total lack of skill. So inevitably he bowls a prone surfer over, (lucky it was his mate) hits him in the head "har har" he still reckons.... bad Karma points must've clocked heavily into the negative when he rolls his board & slashes himself with the fin, butt-cheek-to-anus - masses of internal /external stitches - he was unable to sit for months ( god knows how you go for a crap wth an injury like that ) He recovers & 3 months later is back terrorising the buisiest pointbreaks.

I heard a beauty from a friend not long ago while doing a long down-winder and the wind dropped and we talked as we paddled along... I've been thinking about mentioning it here but would like to check with him first.. It's about what happened with him and his mate while sup'ing a point break at Phillip Island and noticed his mates board floating all by its self way out the back.

Not much you can see, but tore the ligaments badly in my right knee, taking off me wanting to go left, and the big kalama wanting to go right, ouch.... 2 busted ribs, kalama,
brand new $5oo steamer cut in chest when board flew back at me that big mad fin, kalama.

Winded badley a couple of weeks ago trying to paddle out the back over large wave and the 9 6" came straight up at my face, I put the paddle cross ways in front of my face and took it on the chest

Heaps of bumps and bruises

First time I ever took my 11' NSP in the surf I went out through some few knee high whitewash. Wasnt sure what to do but just bent my knees a bit and it was all too easy to ride over it. Then a larger set came through and suddenly the white water was head high. "No worries" I thought, just do the same thing.

Yeah I got taught.

In a flash the board came vertical and smacked me fair in the face. No serious injury but I was seeing stars for a while. Thank God for the full foam deck on the NSP.
