Hey Guys,

Just asking the question.

Does anyone know if the Doctor race will have prize money up for grabs for the Female Sup racers this year.

I know a heap of girls keen from the Goldie to head over and support it but it would be nice to know if there could be reward for the lucky winning girl.

Afterall it cost's us east coasters a fair bit to head over there.

Pretty sure last year there was prize money for women, which turned out to be woman as there was only Fernanda who entered. Looking forward to a big interstate crew coming over, sounds like it is going to be a high quality field.

I think you're right in that they awarded prize money, but it wasn't advertised prior to the event, so we didn't know whether there would be anything or not. Even though we can't all win something, it's nice for there to be something to aim for when it's costs us so much to get over there with our boards to race.

It's also hard to justify the costs of travelling somewhere to arrive and have only 1 or 2 (if any) other girls to race against (there's no fun in winning/placing by default). Hopefully they'll offer something again this year and it will attract some more girls to compete, both locally and from the east coast and maybe overseas?

Prize money or not, I'm hoping to come over in January, but it would be nice to know whether there'll be at least a few girls to race against or not.

There will definitely be prize money for ladies, but at this stage amounts haven't been locked in.

There will be an announcement shortly about prize money, but just quietly it is going to be more than last year and if things go to plan it will hopefully be a lot more...

Starboard is Sponsoring The Doctor for the fourth year this year and added to that for this season are also sponsoring the 20 Beaches – Ocean Series in Sydney which has a prize of a flight to Perth for The Doctor plus a Starboard Race board. Plus we will be sponsoring The Great Melbourne Paddle and the Coffs Harbour Down Winder.

It is going to be a busy season for us with attending each of these events (along with Merimbula in a few weeks) , we will have Demos and/or Clinics at all of these events except The Doctor were we will be on the water, either racing or on the support boat.

Should be a great racing season…

This race seems to be getting bigger and bigger, especially the sup division. With growing numbers each year it only seems to be a matter of time before it becomes one of the biggest races in the country. My prediction is that there will be over 50 sup's in the 2012 race.
Since the inclusion of sup, we haven't even had good conditions yet!
Hopefully it all comes together in 2012 and it turns out to be one of those epic days that we are capable of getting over here in the west.

Does one have to qualify somehow for the Dr or can anyone enter?

Anyone can enter. There is a cut off point during the race where if competitors don't reach a marker by a certain time, they are pulled out of the race.
